Anyone who votes for Mocap gets 50% off any TrueBones product or service.

Including the new FBX motion librarys...

Thanks again and Cheers.

Thinking of changing your vote?

No, I still prefer the idea of traditional/keyframing.

This animation is a hybrid of mocap/traditional and simulation keyframe techniques combined.

Who would like to see such a system in TrueSpace?

Cheers

I decided that it was unfair to offer a 50% discount on Motion Librarys to just Mocap voters.

Now 50% discount to all who vote here.

Thanks again and Cheers

I think the answer to your question is clear by now.

Most people in this community prefer traditional/handKeyed animation.

That to me is suprising given the native animation tools that are provided in TrueSpace.
There must be a lot of MOSTU users voting.

As far as Mocap, I continue to use it in favor of Trad/Hand simply because it is easier for me to create better animations more quickly than I could using the current native bone tools.

I deduce that Mocap is geared more for Game Developers and Non-Hobbiests. (ie: industry professionals)

I'm prepared to wade through any harsh comments to see what the outcome is.

What sparked it is lately I'm getting the feeling that there are only a few of us trueSpace users that prefer traditional/hand-keyed character animation while the majority likes mocap. Is this so? I know what the consensus is in the industry, but what about within the trueSpace community at the hobbyist level?

Thanks, guys! I'm interested in seeing the outcome.

Frank,

Some questions I should not dignify with an answer, But in simple defense of your slander of the below mentioned animation (created by Mantis Motion in Seattle), thats how they used to dance, They would slide their feet around a little bit.

As far as full control? Thats also debatable, and A silly notion seeing how the tradtional keyframing tools are somewhat limited in TrueSpace.

Even though you may have that control, can you acheive the realism and fluidity that mocap provides with 2 clicks of the mouse?

Or would you spend 20 years becoming a master character animator to spite my point?

My Point being that mocap is a good product for those people who are un-familar with trad/hand animating and is the chosen alternative to overly arduous or laborious animating techniques. Mocap is esspecially good for begginer animators as they can use it as a living real time reference in 3 dimensions.

Not everyone wants to be an animator, Some just want to try it out...

:)

Really the jitter isn't nearly as bad as the 'moonwalk' phenomenon.
For an example, go here and check out the "Al Jolsen" dance. While a cool-looking mocap piece, it clearly shows foot slide:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?p=4496

Hopefully I've illustrated the fact that mocap is limited whereas with keyframed animation, you can animate whatever you want and have full control over it.
