This recording file is called THE MATRIX (ftp://forums.caligari.com/hik9/shares/mrbones/matrix.rar)

Load recording in player. press play and character will jump.
You can move your camera while hes jumping to view him at all angles.
Drag and drop shaders to the character while hes jumping.
Note: may also react to recordable physims of lights and particles in realtime.

Thanks Noko, Cheers

Mr. Bones:
Any chance you can post this as a .rcd file?

P.S. I think this is the reason that other users are having problems with looking at this recording.

Methuselah's breakdancing thingy (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/misc/Breakdancer%20full.zip)

PS - I hope it works, I didn't actually try the .rcd file as I wasn't sure what to do with it. :o

An excellent first entry. Character is rather cute and the animation is nice. Unzipped recording is 8MB I wonder if the textures are not too high res.

A very nice recording with vertex animations. It runs a bit too fast on my laptop (NVidia 6800), it lasts about 5 sec. I think there is a switch to keep the original recording speed, I can not find it however now. Also uncopressed recording is 70MB which is a bit much for live server. This could be because of inefficient recording of vertex animation, I will discuss it with developers.

I had a look at Methuselah's 1, but it ran too slow on my machine for me to really appreciate it. :( Guess there's no point me looking at any other .rcd files.

Also, here's the recording rendered in Vray. Just because Vray rules.

Hmm... that wasn't that much faster than the recording ran on my machine afterall.

[I still want a faster 1 though :D]

Nice job Methusela! :) I can't figure out how to unzip mrbones' matrix one though. :(

I actually hadn't played around with the 3D record before now. Very cool! Yet another one of those, Ahaa moments. :)

The only problem is controlling the speed of the playback and recording. I tried recording a couple of things. The manual says that you're supposed to be able to right click on the "open record toolbar" and that will bring up the "record preferences panel" where you are supposed to be able to control the speed and such. Right clicking doesn't seem to bring up that panel.

Does anyone know of another way to get that panel open?

P.S. Right click record panel on this and get speed preferences in stack.

That's cos it's not a .zip, it's a .rar file, for which you need either WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/) or WinAce (http://www.winace.com) [both shareware], or 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) [free].

ah, Thanks Alien. :) It just shows the zip folder icon for me. Won't show the extension. I was trying to figure that out. Darn programs take over and won't let you see the file extensions. Arggg. :)

The preferences panel shows up ok for you mrbones? It doesn't show up for me. Not sure why. I have the preferences stack view open. hmmm.

Open Explorer

Tools->Folder Options->View tab

Display the contents of system folders=on [So you don't have to put up with Windows asking if you're sure you want to look at system folders before it actually lets you see them]

Show Hidden Files & Folders=on [pretty self explanatory]

Hide extensions for known file types=off [This'll mean you can see you're file extensions for all files]

Hide protected system files=off [so that when someone gives you directions on doing something relating to a file under \windows\ you might actually be able to find it! :)]

Remember each folder's settings=off [unless you like having different settings for different folders, & windows doesn't take that much notice of this setting anyway - keeps forgetting it's off]

Apply, Apply to all folders, Ok.

Recording experiment and playback observations.#2
This realtime recording is called "Doom Dude" an 11 meg .rcd file (ftp://forums.caligari.com/hik9/shares/mrbones/doomdude.rcd).Try adjusting the speed and rotating the camera around. Running good on my system.

Looks good mrbones! :)

Thanks again there Alien. :) Actually I'm using Netscape and it does show the extension of the files online. I didn't think to look at what I was actually downloading. 'doh. It's Windows where the programs are taking over and won't allow me to see file extensions.

I can't for the life of me figure out that preferences box though. I know that I'm right clicking on the correct icon and have the correct stack view open. I've even dug around a bit, thinking that maybe it popped up in a strange place or something. I must have broke it somehow, lol.

FYI: When I Right Click :icon_3DRecord: in Full View it shows too! Another words it is not necessary for the Stack to be open. A couple of times I had to Reset to default contex :icon_ResetDefaultCo.

Ok, I think I am beginning to grasp new concepts about recording character animation in TrueSpace 7.1 Here's my scenario. I open TS and then load my saved animated vertex character model with normal maps "Doom Dude". The motion is that he runs, then abruptly turns to the right and then scrams.

I switch to model view because the playback for recording is much swifter in that mode. I open my record toolbar.:icon_OpenRecordTool I open my KFE.:icon_SceneEditor: I press play on the KFE and then press record on the recorder, animation runs for about 5 -8 seconds, at end of animation I press stop on the Recorder. Ts has just recorded a playback of my character animation.

Now I switch to player window. I grab hold of the spotlight in the LE window. I press the record key on the Recorder one more time. My character animation runs through again, except this time I drag the light over him as hes running.

When the animation ends I press stop on the recorder. I press play on the recorder toolbar. Ts has just recorded my actions in the player on top of the animations in the KFE in realtime. So now I have a recording of two layerd actions of 2 seperate playbacks on both sides of the bridge. This is way cool!

From here I plan to add a camera action, make it shake around a bit like an earthquake scene. I can just add more and more recordings like layers to a single scene. I didnt know you could continue to layer recordings on top of recordings. This works good for me! Thanks Caligari and Cheers

If this is so then it is new and very excitting, must test out this scenario. Layering like this would just be awesome, thanks mrbones! More later.

Ok...Well I'm not sure if this is going to work but I'll try anyway. :)

I made a rather large recording. Even zipped it's almost 9mb. Seen as there is a 2mb limit here and my website is temporarily down while I change servers, I put it on my personal webspace from my internet provider, lol. Not sure what my bandwidth limit is so, we'll see I guess. :)

Here's the link to the file:

Modeling a Dog Figure (http://home.comcast.net/~keserasera/ModelingDogFigure.zip)

The recording is the modeling process of the dog figure in the screengrab below. It's similar to a dog figure soap dispenser design that I recently got runner up in the speed modeling contest with. The modeling is a bit different from the speed modeling entry I made though because I only used the new modeling tools in the player side to model this one.

It's probably best to view it at the highest speed. :) It would probably take around an hour if you played it at normal speed. I wish there was a way to control the speed more accurately then that slider. There seems to be quite a jump in speed from the second highest speed to the highest. For this, I think something right in-between would be perfect. Anyway, I'm rambling now...Here's a screengrab of the finished model:

If you run out of bandwidth I can put it up on my site for a while, just let me know. Character looks good. Nice modeling, it's great to see how others work in 3d, watching this recording I can't help but think how great this tool is for creating tutorials along with Trueplay this will be awesome.

Thanks for the offer there daybe. :) I may take you up on it if my bandwidth runs out. :) Indeed the 3D recorder could be a very powerful learning tool. One can even stop the recording and start modeling off of the model at any point. I just can't wait until others start making some recordings. :)

I just timed the playback at the second highest speed for my recording. It's a little under 30min. Not too bad I guess. It's pretty easy to see what's going on at that speed I think. I apologize for some of the constant spinning around, lol. I did this on the fly so there are a few mistakes and some camera swinging as I was deciding what I was going to do next. :)

So am I understanding correctly that some people already have their hands on a beta version of TS7.1? Has anyone been given a beta copy yet as a direct result of Roman's offer to make 3d recordings in this thread, or did you already have it? I need to get cracking on this and make a 3d recording if the offer still stands.

Colfax: I don't believe that anyone has 7.1 yet. So far as I'm aware the contest is still open. I'm anxious to see more recordings. Go for it! :)

Thanks

Thanks trueBlue. :) Yes, I was in the camera view pretty much the whole time. The only time that I left the camera was when I went over to the modeling side to texture.

Your very welcome. Now mine usually end up being very large and I have no server to allow showings. Anyways here is a simple one which I stumble upon and thought it was kinda neat. I was experimenting with neon looking lights and a fast moving background. I thought the interaction with the glow was very neat. Anyways here is a recording with a script that needs to be played for setup.

To Play:

Go to Player Preferences in stack and set background all the way to black otherwise this scene will just be one big glow :D.

Load record and hit play once if scene does not load

Hit Start on script in the Link Editor that says "Run this script to set scene". This sets bloom settings and camera view for good location. Move around though.

That should get you to something like image below, do believe you will have to have a DX9 capable card to see the glow and stuff though. Let me know what you think. Maybe this will give someone some ideas to use, I hope.

Hi, I have been experimenting with some of the macro record functionality I can see where it can come in very handy. For some reason the terrain script object in TS7 deformed on a saved scene attempt in the modeler side. Not quite sure why, but otherwise, I know as macros get made more could really be done for real time player scenes and elements to create. I managed to re-import the player record macro to get back to where I was before the scene save pretty easy. Don't try saving the scene with the terrain script modeler side of things on that script item or the terrain gets warped on both the player and modeler. Scott. :icon_FixationPoint1
