Quite a shocker today. I'm very disappointed to see Microsoft do this. They weren't my favorite company to begin with, and now I have healthy loathing for them. I really was hoping that things would turn around, but I (like many others) slowly felt this coming over the last several months. It's a shame to see Roman's vision just gobbled up by the big cold MS monster and then thrown out like this.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here. I made a lot of good friends on these forums over the years. It was always a pleasure to check the forums every day and see what everyone was up to. So thanks to everyone who helped out with tips and tricks, or just hung out and had a good time sharing our passion for 3d graphics. The community here really became like a family. I hope that we can still find a place to hang out. If not, I wish you all the best, but I'm sure that we'll run into one another from time to time on other 3d sites. They can take trueSpace out of 3d, but they aren't going to take 3d out of trueSpacers. ;)

Thanks for the great times everyone, and best wishes!

Johnny has two green reputation boxes! (under the post count). Mouse over them and it says he has a spectacular aura about him. I never saw that reputation in the forums before.

Hi Folks,

well, a very sad day ... I just got started digging into the depths of trueSpace, only a few month ago. It turned out what I've expected before - a very timeconsuming matter, but I don't regret.

What a pity now for such a mean application ... & Roman and the whole team. Thank you!

@ délé ... we can be sort of glad that time has not yet come nor will it ever, that tS has to be reactivated again every day ... ;)
So we're still able to continue making worlds with it. :)

... and let me add to your last post:
They can take trueSpace out of 3d, but they aren't going to take 3d out of trueSpacers.
Thank goodness - they don't have enough power to take out the True Space at all - where everything is 3D-extreme! Fully Animated! :rolleyes:

So, everybody take out your 'hitchhikers guide to ...' and let's meet in the outer space ..., somewhere in fantasy ..., or wait some time until a bigbot has established, then I'll advice my machine to give you a call directly :D

All the best to you!

-BM.

ps: ... no joke, join Jacks Forum at http://www.YafaRay4tS.org, or Prodigys at http://tscommunity.anaglifo.com ... don't be late ... (remember what happened to the little train!) - I'm already in a hurry - I rush to join ..., bye :D

Yes, download the app, download the videos, download the tutorials and burn 'em to CDs.

But most of all download and save the galleries...outside of development and beta testing, that's where the blood, sweat, tears and joy of TS have left their traces for so many years. So many names there, so many friends....

Have been away from TS for years, and largely removed from CG as well, but this is a very sad day. Even though the slicing to the bone is going on all around us, in all businesses, in all professions, ostensibly to insure the survival of the core concerns, what an impoverished world we'll be waking up to on the other side of economic recovery due to the myriad losses, big and small, like this one!

Roman, Tom, Norm, and so many others ... that this announcement could still cut an old fart like me, from TS's distant past, like a quick kick to the solar plexis is no small testament to Caligari's significance in our lives.

As a TSer of old, now gone, used to sign off on the TSML, "Peace." And God speed to you all.

will Microsoft or Caligari give away the sourcecode so maybe TS will be the next Blender ?

What could the guys do with the source code ? all better !!!

Bye to ex Caligari team. This was a nice time since version1.x.

I spend much money and time in TS.

What´s going on with VRay ? I bought it. Can i share my VRay 1.53 with the rest of guys that use TS in the future ?

Most likely not, Vray is not owned by caligari.

This however is truely a sad day, I havent been here for the last couple weeks as things have been going pretty bad for me, And just when things for me are starting to look fair again... I come here for more bad news. :(

I guess we will never see TS 8 now. :( I had a strange feeling it would end like this. Leave it to Microsoft to screw things up. First I have a crappy vista OS installed which sucks like hell and just recently crashed the hell out of my pc and now it seems my favourite 3D editor is now being discontinued by the goofs. Maybe Caligari should have stuck to their software themselves and forget about emerging with such an ass of a company.

I wish all here the best of luck and hope that the future holds better things for the people here and for those who worked at caligari.

I can still be found on the Game Creators site and the Deled site if anyone needs to contact me for whatever reasons. I hope to see others here on other sites in the future and if I don't.... Then again good luck to all those in the future and hope many here do well for themselves. :)

I would like an answer to this too. There are people with information about the progress of tS and Vray who cannot share it due to NDA's. Hell, I know more than I should but, unlike those bound by an NDA, I choose not to divulge it through trust.

But now, why can we not know what was developed since tS7.6? In a few days it will not be possible to ask or share..so I ask. Where is tS7.61 and the Vray update?

When is the NDA over?
# the term (in years) of the confidentiality, i.e. the time period of confidentiality;
# the term (in years) the agreement is binding;
I have many questions.

@Prodigy,

Yup, nothing much to leak lol. They kept even the beta testers in the dark pretty much until the end anyway.

Oh i'm very sad now but not surprised. I just read this letter at the same time there was really a heavy storminess out there ... a adequate background music for this bad news. After this long years with Truespace, Caligari staff and the community was incredible. I wish really all staff good luck in this bad times. Bad times for many of us ...

But there is a light ... Truespace isn't dead as long we use it and i plan to use it as long as possible. We will see us in a another forum.

Thanks again to all for a good time.

I'm in shock. I just re-discovered TS last week. I saw it much earlier, but being a hobbiest only, never could afford to buy it. When I saw that it was free now, I jumped at the chance to give it a go. I've played around with Blender some, but TS was just so much friendlier for the beginner!. And now this! I was looking forward to finally getting to do some real modeling! Now, I feel like I've wasted a week's worth of spare time in learning my way around TS. I don't really see how I can be bothered to continue to learn much more on TS when it is now a dead end ride! I have learned a lot from these forums in the last week, and have never seen such a helpful community! I asked my first question just yesterday, and it was answered by Jack in less than half an hour! and thanks for the tip from noko as well! But it seems as though if I really want to get serious about 3d modelling, that I must return my efforts to Blender, which is a fine product, just not very friendly to the beginner! I wish you all the best, and maybe I'll see you somewhere else in the future!

I have been using tS since version 1, beta tested tS for illustrators then tS7. Worked extensively on the UI and yet I have hardly scratched the surface.

Point being, don't give up on it. If you had already exhausted tS as some have then maybe you could despair at the lack of new features to try.

I have done some good (IMHO) work in tS but I am yet to do my best using the programme.

Don't despair, it cost you nothing so you have nothing to lose either way.

Interesting times!!

I like to think there are no such thing as breakdowns, only breakthroughs. I'll be using tS for a long time to come and to me perhaps one of the most incredible things about what Roman and Co have done is that they've given the users a software that can be build on and advanced regardless.

A huge thank you from me to Caligari and the entire community- thanks to trueSpace I have gained so much in terms of new friends, new skills, great laughs, inspirational artwork.... the list goes on.

I won't spend a moment feeling sad about the demise of trueSpace - I'm way too busy being grateful that it was there in the first place.

See ya'll soon.

Well; I am shocked, but not surprised. Buying an application only to let it die seems to be what Microsoft does (I believe they bought, then abandoned what is now XSI/Softimage). As soon as I heard about MS acquiring TrueSpace, I had serious doubts about it's future...especially after the latest prolonged silence from Roman. It's too bad everyone was left in suspense, only for the demise of a great application to be the end-game.

Since M$ owns all things TrueSpace, they'll let it die rather than become open-source...and that's pretty sad (if not typical of MS). I was thinking about the financial situation the world is in right now; and the phrase "too big to fail" came to mind. I believe this applies to M$ as well.

Anyways, had to say it.

On another note; TS/GS were my first forays into the world of 3D (as it was for MANY people, who've moved on to other apps). I'll miss the community, as well as the software itself. Though some will continue to use TS; for the most part, I believe others will eventually just move on to something else (such as Blender for freeware, or Lightwave/Max/Softimage/Maya/Modo/etc.). If Roman ever wishes to bring TS back from the dead; he may want to look at doing it sooner, rather than later; before the community dwindles to nothing...having moved on to other apps. Though some people have the view that since TrueSpace is free (until the links go dead), you have nothing to lose.....they forget how valuable time is to people. Time spent learning another app will keep them where they are.

I am interested in what the plans are for the Caligari Team, in the future...but I doubt we'll hear anything, as Roman was pretty tight-lipped about whatever project they were/are working on for M$.

I guess there's not much more to say; other than "Thanks for all the good times", both to the community...and to the Caligari team! Good luck in whatever you do. :)

-Keith

Hi all , One question ,is this forum going to end? if so these are sad times...

This forum will be closed some day. (Maybe tomorrow)
A lot of the users will use this site instead.
http://tscommunity.anaglifo.com/
Different colors but the same great group of users. Even Roman will visit!

@KeithC
Instead of thinking llike trueSpace is dead, think instead of new applications
you can learn WITH trueSpace.

I plan on using trueSpace for years to come, WITH Silo, Headus UVLayout, Hexagon, MOI, etc etc.

The more we learn the more we expand. For some trueSpace was the begining to a wonderful 3D career, to others it is a tool to achieve our vision.
I think the Core group of loyal users will continue to use trueSpace and find ways to improve it in the next few years. I know I'll be one of them.
