Would Alphaworld ever wipe? // Communitysw comitJan 7, 2001, 2:57pm
That is, would they delete everything in Alphaworld if they came up with a
new feature or something that wouldn't be compatible with the worlds objects, and the only way to add this new feature would be to start over. goober kingJan 7, 2001, 4:16pm
Well, they did it once before, but that was back in the infancy of AW
when not many people had built there and they felt they had to start from scratch. But now, AW's too far gone for COF to start over, even if they wanted to. You think just having the AW server go offline for a few day is bad, wiping the AW database completely would probably sink the company for good! :P [View Quote] -- Goober King Beware the Meteor Strike... it may come again... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu roluJan 7, 2001, 5:00pm
They wouldn't because this would give a huge riot. If they want to wipe
AWprime, they'd do it in a sneaky way. And besides, the size and amount of stuff in AWprime is a nice thing to brag about to large companies. Rolu [View Quote] datedmanJan 7, 2001, 5:19pm
No that won't happen.

there's just no reason to wipe it. It costs almost nothing to run it, ya wanna
change things drastically just open another server...if you change stuff for the BETTER... (which is prety unlikely but) if you do a real good job the point will be moot fairly soon anyway. LOL though really I did some calculations and AWCOM makes over $540,000 from
citizenships alone, so add in the world costs and that would put them at probably $600,000. But really when you think of it most of AW's cits build in AW so AW is really what the company is riding on. And I also found that AWCOM doesn't loose a lot of money when AW is down (only has to be 10 bucks at most an hour). -- / |\ /| |\ /| / | \ / | | \ / | \ | \/ | | \/ | \_ | | | | eepJan 9, 2001, 2:18am
How do you figure? AW does NOT have 27,000 citizens--more like PERHAPS 11,000 which have actually paid. You forget many citizenships are free with worlds, won in contests/games, or otherwise simply GIVEN away by AWCI in promotions (Juno, Pepsi-sponsored 13th Floor opening, etc).
AWCI already states in its SEC reports that most revenue comes from universe server owners and worldbuilding/object design contracts. If you read the correct sources, the Juno deal wasn't a free promotion as
you classed it, and did represent a factor of revenue on the AWCI books. ~Alphanumeric [View Quote] goober kingJan 11, 2001, 3:09pm
That's because Juno paid them to build the world, keep the server
running and to pay for all the citizenships their users would get. But as far as the Juno user's concerned, the citizenship is free, which was what Eep was referring to. [View Quote] -- Goober King Thank you, Captain Obvious! rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu captain mad mikeJan 11, 2001, 11:36pm

If you don't think some Juno reps got free citizenships out of the deal, you're cluelessly mistaken. At any rate, I never said Juno was a free promotion. YOU need to read correctly.
