MUCH NEEDED WISH - Paragraph Capabilities In Telegrams (Wishlist)
MUCH NEEDED WISH - Paragraph Capabilities In Telegrams // Wishlist
Jul 17, 2002, 11:28pm
Hi everyone:
It it just me or am I left alone in wondering WHY we have the complex
capabilities of chatting in 3D, yet we *don't* have (what SHOULD be!) THE
SIMPLEST feature such as paragraph sentencing in telegrams???
I mean it's kinda awkward whednn you're trying to send a telegram, but yet
PROOF READING it to ensure you've including everything you wanted to say or
to check for spelling errors is like reading the legalese fine print on a
document.
I can't evedn imagine what it's like for the person trying to READ the
darned thing.
There should also be a SEPERATE pop up window that contains the actual
telegram. A sound file or a message to the world bot (or even using the
current Operator - if not a combination of all three) can (still) be used to
inform the person they have a telegram. The world bot (or the nearest
closest bot in case of AW towns) can then whisper to the user that there's a
telegram waiting for them (the user) unless the user sees the Operator
message (which isn't hard to miss in a crowded area)
For bot owners, it would be like the bot having a "contact list" of its own.
Plus it could act as a meassenger. Kinda cool, eh???
Comments??? Tar??? Feathers??? Flames??? ALL OF THE ABOVE??? *GASP!* :-)

Control enter is the windows default for putting "line breaks" when the
window is meant to send stuff. Some times it's reversed, enter is a line
break and control enter is for sending.

Yes, Bowen is right, you have to hold "control" then hit enter to start a
new line, yet your other idea about the bots informing the person that they
have a telegram is not a bad idea. It is very hard to see telegrams in a
crowded area, I have missed so many telegrams in the past and a lot of times
its important stuff....so I think you have a good idea there :o)

I know this is quite off-topic but all well :). since u guys were on about
bots i decided to add something ive wanted for quite a while now. Wouldn't
it be nice if a bot could SEND telegrams? that way mayors of cities and need
to telegram all cits for important info wouldnt need to always type in a new
name. mayb they could add a list of contacts thru cit numbers? that way we
wouldn't need to keep track of names. just an idea :)

yeh, we've discussed this before and basically there'd have to be some
really nice security things made to avoid mass telegramming. It would not be
fun in the least to receive 800 telegrams in a few minutes while you're
taking a leak!

Don't even THINK about it. That would open up the doors to mass
telegramming and spam like in ICQ and Yahoo...
People would have to block telegrams by default from all those not on
their contacts to avoid the junk.
Yeah, you say, but the telegram comes from one cit and is easily
busted for spamming. But PPW's aren't the hardest thing to get from
friends and such.

I have to agree with Dion on this one. If this were allowed, it'd *also* be
just our luck for some script kiddie TROLL to write a bot capable of doing
this very thing using spoofed cits or (even worse!) EXPIRED cits.
And just HOW would they acquire such things you say??? AlphaWorld is FILLED
with builds and other objects laid down by people who, for one reason or
another, are NO LONGER with us OR have rejoined using a new (at that time)
cit name (which is their current cit).
OTOH...I just had ANOTHER idea hit me. More on that in another thread...
:-)
Cheers for now :-)
Patrick
P.S.: There's also services such as Yahoo! Groups just in case I, as a
mayor, needed to get a hold of the City Council for something, it could be
done via a CLOSED list in which ONLY myself and other appropriate city
personnel could be notified by email :-) I'm sure many other towns use
these services too... :-)
Jul 19, 2002, 8:17am
maybe everyone who joins in to the city has to get ICQ and has to keep it
running at all times while online, this way u have a way to notify all at
once and dont have to bother with possible tgram flooding

You can't use the PPW of an expired cit. (I would know, I've actually
gone and tried it before.)

Hm, maybe it was a "canceled" cit that I was using the ppw of. You know one
that's been disabled because of vandelism.

I know those don't work, I tried it about a year ago and it gave me the same
message "your citizenship has been disabled" thing.

You cant spoof telegrams from citizens, entering a world under a spoofed
citizenship is another story...
