Here is the first version of the Frequently Wished Wishes List. If you =
have read the Wishlist newsgroup, you might have read about it already. =
It is an attempt to find out which features should be added first to AW. =
So, please read, send in new ideas, and vote on the ideas *you* want to =
see added to AW!!
The Frequently Wished Wishes List
compiled and updated by Rolu
Version 1

1. Goal of the list

The goal of this list is to list all the ideas of the users of Active =
Worlds about possible improvements for this program, and to find out =
which improvements are most wanted.

2. How to add an idea to the list

If you have an idea that you want to see added to the list, E-mail this =
idea to: Rolu99 at Mediaport.org Please mention your AW-nickname in the =
E-mail.

3. How to change an idea on the list

If you have an addition to an idea on the list, for example, if you know =
a possible solution to a problem that will come up when the idea is =
implemented, mail your addition to: Rolu99 at Mediaport.org Please mention =
the version of the list (found directly under the title, to the right of =
the page) and the rank of the idea.

4. Voting

To find out which ideas are most wanted, everyone can vote on the ideas. =
The rules for voting are:

1. Votes should be submitted to: Rolu99 at Mediaport.org=20
2. If you submit your votes, you should mention both the =
version of the list and the ranking of the idea you vote on.=20
3. Everyone can vote as many times as he wants, but only =
once per idea. So, if you want, you can vote on every idea on the list, =
or only a few of them.=20
4. The names of the voters are not listed next to the ideas, =
but I will keep track of who voted on which idea.=20
5. You can always withdraw your vote on one or more ideas, =
assumed you have voted on these ideas.=20
6. If you submit an idea, your submission is not counted as =
a vote, so all ideas start with zero votes. You can, however, vote on =
your own idea(s).=20
=20
The ideas that have received the most votes are on top of the list, and =
are thus the most wanted ones.

5. Miscelanelous

a.. When an idea is added to Active Worlds, I will remove it from =
this list.

b.. The reason you have to mention both the version of the list and =
the ranking of the idea is that the ranking of an idea is a good short =
way to refer to an idea, but that the ranking can change from version to =
version.

c.. Since this is version 1 of the list, no-one has voted yet, so =
the ideas are in random order.

6. List of wishes

kay, thank you. I will remove it :-)

Some news about the list: I'm going to make some changes to the voting =
mechanism. I will give every idea an ID :-) , a number that stays the =
same, no matter what the rank of the idea is, so you can refer to the =
idea using the ID, instead of the number of the list and the rank. This =
should make voting somewhat easier. Also I will add the number of the =
list that an idea was added to the list to the idea (I mean, tell you =
since which list version an idea is on the list) so you only have to =
rememer which list you have reviewed last, to know which ideas you =

the layout of the list to a better (readable) one, and I am going to add =
some more wishes I received via E-mail. And if you want to know what =

OK in deference to Eep, I would like to vote for this feature as a high =
priority

One solution if COF are wedded to Renderware might be an alternate =
browser to reader the server data, render it in hardware and display in =
fullscreen mode. Might be too difficult though given COF's programmer =
power at the moment.

In general AW lags behind other 3D software, especially games such as =
TR3. A full screen hardware rendered environment could include the =

I dunno if this would be the clue to my problem, I know many have and
has been discuss here = while with a much more powerful machine the
fluidity of AW becomes acceptable, I have these regular freezing periods
of several seconds. Imagine you buy a new car to go faster, and it does,
but stalls every ten miles. But if it would solve it, I'd second that.

There are two different "freezing" in the browser.
One of them when a new midi file starts to play (mostly under Windows NT and the freezing period depends on the size of the midi file) - caused by the underlying Internet Explorer.
The other one when you are walking and crossing a cell boundary (10 meter) - at this moment the browser has to load the next visible cell's data and if there are too many objects there (NOT vertices or polygons!) it stops for - sometimes 10-15! - seconds. We had this problem in Storage when we had the flowerbed made from individual flowers. CHanging them to flowerbeds (same flowers but grouped into one larger object) decreased the jerkiness by a magnitude.
