Virtual Economy, More Powers for Worldowners, Shutterglasses // Wishlistdirk-jan \twinkle\ de bruinApr 24, 1998, 4:47pm
1) A Virtual Economy
2) More powers for world owners (like freeze, forced teleport to worldowner or to some place, etc.) 3) Shutterglasses If you want to know why, just ask =^) I've sent these and more suggestions to a CoF member some weeks ago with the full description of a couple of pages =^). Kind regards, yours, Dirk-Jan "Twinkle" de Bruin "Peace, fun and less bugs" http://twinkleclan.net twinkle at tip.nl jdalApr 24, 1998, 9:27pm

Yep =^) I also posted that in that message, hope they listen =^) It would be
VERY neat! And it eventually would beat WA 3.0 when it comes out, since it will also be 3D and has all these features... and like EC Habitats.... Since those will have loads of potential.... Kind regards, Dirk-Jan "Twinkle" http://twinkleclan.net [View Quote] athenaApr 28, 1998, 10:16pm

I would tend to vote "no" for a virtual economy, at least without a lot
of research being done first. WorldsAway has a virtual economy, and I can't see that it has enhanced the experience as much as it has allowed the invention of virtual crime. Tokens are earned by passing time in WA, which means you get lots and lots of abandoned avatars, just passing time to get cash. Besides, now 90% of the avatars in WA spend all of their time in one location gambling. The rest of the environment stays pretty empty. You can't even chat there....the robot game-caller does all the talking, and it's so crowded everyone has to keep "ghosting" (being a virtual avatar....how's that for redundant <smile>?). It might work in AW, but only if carefully thought out. Since you already have the example of WA, I'd strongly suggest checking them out to learn what the problems are. Now, before you can have any kind of cash economy, you need to be able to pick up objects......*that's* something on *my* wishlist. Athena technozeusApr 28, 1998, 11:17pm
Actually, not all "economy" is based on "things" and I would think that is
sucha virtual economy was to be offered, it would be best off to be totally optional, and flexible enough to be able to take on almost any meaning the world owner wanted it to. One example would be getting "given" credits by individualy for such services as giving them a tour of the world. Fact is, it "would" result in a certain amoutn of dishonesty and fraud, but if used sparingly, and only where it serves a purpose, there is some small possiblilty that it could add an interesting facet to the ActiveWorlds universe. I've been using WorldsAway for about 3 years now, and I've been reducing
crime with the Twinkle Clan for more then a year now (check out http://twinkleclan.net ) and I'm writing a book about Virtual Worlds. A Token-based system *will* enhanced the experienced, and the crimes have a good work-around I've proven that myself. Indeed pic up is a neat item first, but in earlier stadioms I would be neat to be able to sell your property, or but 'z' items, that would be less hard to program. That's try, and the crime can be minized, if you have the right staff/team
for it. People who dont want to have it should be able to run without it indeed. Kind regards, Dirk-Jan 'Twinkle' [View Quote] dirk-jan \twinkle\ de bruinMay 3, 1998, 6:11pm
WorldsAway 3.0 thats what FSBA should be working on as I hear.
