Ladies and gentlemen of the NGs, I do direct your attention to this travesty
that occured in AWTeen's Capital City re-opening building contest.
This website pretty much sums it up...
http://contest.servehttp.com/

I'd also like your thoughts as to whether the judges were also judging a
category wrongly; lag was one of the categories.
Lag is most certainly relative, and if that should be taken as a factor on
how good a build was then why bother.

Also, this just in!

The second place winner cheated! The build was propdumped from Gulakon world
(7N 0W) and then planted directly into Capital City by Kmissile - the times
on half the build are all the same. And this won over Ferruccio's build,
which was a 7 bedroom 7 bathroom house with home theatre, pool, billiards,
downstairs bar, 4 car garage, sauna, wine cellar, tennis court, and master
suite! It's ridiculous!

Well Well Well... how rude!

Your right, of course. Phalaphe made a complete bollocks up of the entire
situation, information was not given out, judging left vast quantities to be
desired, the prize awards were an absolute shamble and the whole situation
was generally poor.

However, AWTeen can only give away a limited amount of prizes per-month,
that we recieve from Mountain Myst. In the event of the capital city
building contest one of these prizes, a 3D homepage, was sponcered to
Phalaphe as the prize for the winner.

Due to the global nature of the arguing going on regarding this I requested
the votes of the council members who all agree that, while there were some
major problems with the planning and judging of this event, we could not
reallocate prizes and as the first prize winner was able to claim the
origional prize awarded to her we had to call it case closed...

Thing is: we do share your concerns about this and have been discusing
launching another competition in CC, this time where a small group (probably
the council) will pick 5 or 6 of the best builds and then the voting will be
opened to the public. We find it unsuitable to think about just free-voting
and would hope that by limiting the group to 5 or so people would spend more
time looking at these builds in detail, giving builds in different areas a
better chance. However this is not confirmed, please watch the IO for
information.

Of course, I am sure that the fact that this includes Ashley. and the
ongoing problems with her by certain other people involved in this protest
and the maintained harrasment of her by certain users is completly
irrelevant to the point that this has come around. :)~~~~~~

By the way, AWTeen does have its own newsgroups for things like this kindly
provided to use by Andras, news://andras.net/aw.awteen.

Thankyou,

- Mark

It is irrelevant. Her build was a copy of ferrs, and to see that as first
place, is disgusting. You may also want to look into your statement a bit
more strike, I'm sure you will find numerous people with complaints
regarding her for harassing them, not so much the other way around.

Not meaning to be rude but didn't Kmissle and Brant make the build in
Gulakon?

Taking points off of a build for it being laggy is like a partially-blind
person taking points off of a painting because he cannot see the details..

If the judges do not have the proper equipment to judge, I.E. lagging at
high detail builds, then they should either recognize that frame rate
shouldn't affect build quality, or willingly resign. I believe contests of
the future should have all the judges announced beforehand, so the builders
can decide whether they want to enter or not.

Or at the *very least* make a written contest rule that performance will be
a factor =\
....and even then it's hard for someone with a fast computer to know when
enough is enough.

A good judge should value context of the build ( skill, original ideas, and
artistic/technical ability ) AND justification for lagginess vs. "Joe
Average and his poor cousin" 's ability to view the build.

The Judge does not ( if he is worth his salt) judge on his OWN ability to
appreciate the build nor on his personal tastes for beauty over techie or
vice a versa.

Isn't judging artistic ability using his personal preferences? There is no
standard "this is good, this is bad" criteria art-wise.

ya i agree, as long as it looks nice, and isn't laggy, technice isn't that
important.

Sure Ferrr .....I agree........Judging is very personal.....And to judge
something no matter what one needs to KNOW how to do it ....And very
well.....So no matter someone pretends to KNOW and come here and try to preach
what one is not able to do it.
