Beta 3.4 [479] [BUG] Problem with create picture? // CommunitybastillionApr 15, 2003, 11:19am
Hey, it's great that the 3.4 [479] beta has been released to the public.
Have been wanting to see all the new features! Possible problem though with create picture command now? I have been using the pictwlkh.rwx with a picture saved on a geocities site, and it works fine with 3.3 create picture geocities.com/basti_02/bastwalk.jpg Now, with 3.4.. I don't seem to be loading the picture onto the object. I am walking around The Bastion (world aw 1206.1N 7750.0W 0.4a 0) and finding that a LOT of the create picture commands are not loading with 3.4. Anyone else having this problem, or know of a fix? Celeron 333 WinXP Pro 192mb RAM VooDoo3 3000 PCI (with last driver released) Thanks, Bastillion mrbruceApr 15, 2003, 11:38am
Yes, freebie sites like Geocities do not work with 3.4 we noticed this back
when the 3.4 beta was first started, it has something to do with the way AW identifies its self to your webhost Geocities. Geocities do not intend themselves from being used as a public free download site ofr the public, just think everytime someone visits your world they download off that free server, it was never meant to be, so now that AW's browser identifies its self differently, free sites like Geocities and Tripod block out AW from downloading off their site. It's best now everyone gets a webpage from a paid for service. I am sure someone can exsplain this better, but those of us who have been beta testers from the beginning noticed this right from the beginning and there's nothing we can do about it. MrBruce. I think there was a thread a ways back mentioning that geocities didn't want
their servers used for stored pics for download in here or something? Anyone remember that? [View Quote] kahApr 15, 2003, 1:10pm

You'll need to use some sort of proxying device to remove the Referer HTTP header from AW's HTTP requests. If you ask me, it's not a good idea setting the Referer header (yes, it's misspelled, but that's how the standard is) since you can't produce a valid URL to identify the referring location anyway. They should've invented their own custom header instead, so systems designed for AW interface could still identify the browser. I believe a lot of software firewalls also provide this sort of proxying functionality, check your docs if you've got one. KAH chianaApr 15, 2003, 3:28pm
angelfire seems to work with AW still , you can get 20mb free accounts with
them goddess innieApr 15, 2003, 6:08pm
ummmm, have you checked your settings in options? we had that problem until
we realized that all our settings were reset when upgrading. you must change your settings to view all pictures! otherwise, if it is over 250kb, it wont load. [View Quote] goddess innieApr 15, 2003, 8:34pm
The only reason I brought that up is, several people had complained to me,
and when I had them check their settings, they discovered they had been reset. When changing them back to where they wanted them, everything loaded fine. [View Quote] kahApr 21, 2003, 8:22pm
