Ya I can remember the first time for me. A tourist with no idea what to do.
How to even start building. What to build. I was aware that tourist stuff
was vulnerable to deletion so I wasn't to keen on putting much effort into
anything in particular. Paying wasn't a consideration for me, being brought
up on the belief that there's allot of software not worth purchasing.
Shareware freeware great ideas try, before you buy. So here is this program
where you can build and explore to your imaginations extent. Wow. Still is
it any good? I found this spot way out in no mans land ( persons ) And built
this box. I was proud of my box . Well the builds got better and the ideas
started coming. It was a few weeks maybe a month before I committed myself
to paying. I felt for quit awhile that my stuff wasn't up to snuff. Over
time in the large area offered by Aw I came to realize its really vast and
stuff can easily get lost or never ever discovered. My fear of deletion was
over blown Probability was on my side even if someone was malicious enough
to go looking for tourist builds to delete they aren't likely to find my
stuff. Aw by its size makes it a great starter world. Awteen on the other
hand being tourist enabled is only 1/100th +/- the size and tourist builds
are being deleted regularly. I wonder if Id started in Awteen as a tourist
if id be here today. Like Lara put it working on a simple box was painful
and took time. Coming back a few days later to find it partially deleted or
covered in vandalism more than likely would have turned me away.
My argument for tourist enabling AW.

> I dunno. I kinda' look at it from the perspective of how I was 7 years
ago when I first came into AW. I was very interested in building, but it
took quite awhile for me to practice building to the point where I would
have paid to register and keep using the program. There are worlds where
tourists can practice building, sure, but the the risk of deletion is high.
I don't think I'd have gotten interested at all if I had worked hard
learning to build a house for a few days only to come back to find it all
gone. I'd have said, "to heck with this" and uninstalled.
>
> The unique thing about Alphaworld (back when tourists could build there)
is that serious prospective builders could really get hooked on building in
AW. They could take their time - weeks, months, whatever - to explore, get
ideas, and get good enough at building that they enjoyed it. The more time
they spent out in the boondocks of alphaworld building a big project, the
more they wanted *someone* else to see it, which meant a risk of deletion.
*That* was the incentive to register, for many tourist builders in the past.
>
> With the higher registration fee now, it's all the more important (imho)
to let tourists build in Alphaworld. It may take even longer now for people
to get addicted enough to building to shell out the money. Those tourists
are the future world owners.

I'm glad to see more Alpha World related threads. I get the impression that
AWI thinks we're statisfied with Alpha World the way it is. In fact a
certain someone said that Enzo said it hismelf that according to a poll, a
majority of the AW citizens don't want Alphaworld to change. wtf? lol, I
won't even get started on that one...

AW 3.4 is coming along quite nicely thanks to Shamus, Will, Bill and the
betatesters. Find me software that has zero bugs and I will show you a book
:)
As for NewAW it is also coming along very nicely thanks to the same group.
It will be released but not until 3.4 is finished as it relies on 3.4 and
the 3.4 server. What can I tell you?

That's user error. Not my fault you can't use your compiler without the Cookie
Monster stealing your stuff. If the Cookie Monster becomes a big problem we may have
to hunt him for sport.

Here here. The electoral college operates on the public will. And in cases
like the 2000 election, where there is less than 1000 votes separating the
winner from the loser, they try to determine public will as best they can.
There was nothing unconstitutional with the election process, even though it
seriously is in need of some retooling to make the popularity vote more
fair.
