AWI trys to keep their fingers out of everything except making money on the program.
You'll find out AWI is a very "skelleton crew" company. All these "clubs" and "organizations" are all public run and sponsored....AWI cannot afford to spend any more money on the program than it does already with the programmers and office staff.
All these extras are considered "community" events....and guess what? ....If AWI goes belly-up tomorrow, I got money on it that says the community will bail it out...AGAIN...:)
The "community' has a lot more "heart" into this than the Staff at AWI. They(AWI) just have money into it.

I don't even know WHY you posted this topic in the first place. Personally
I am happy that the Cy Committee is trying to do something about their
situation now and I have respect for that . They even go ahead and, like GK
already stated, let the community know whats going on ahead of time.

Goober King does his research on AW, as he's been around a hell of a lot
longer than you. He's been here for the Cy's since the start. Maybe you
should do your reasearch, Ironhead...

Your argument is pointless and real unclear. So maybe you should go pick
yourself up a Grade 7 grammar book, Mavis Beacon and a brain and come back
when your ready.

Anyone up for sacrificing Linn to get ol' Eep back? *raises hand* At least

doubt you.

In any case, from the sounds of it, you seem to think "sponsor" means
"gave money to". I can almost guarantee that *no one* has given money to
the CY Awards Committee at all. However, AWI *has* donated a world,
avatars, and even the CY statue itself to the cause, therefore they
"sponsor" it. If you show any sort of support for something, you are
sponsoring it, plain and simple.

What, you think AWNews has the sort of funds to donate money the CY
Awards? I think not. :P

situation is at present. It is very evident the ppl who are trying to run
the CY s and what ppl say and do here, wishes anything that conflicts with
their own beliefs are to be silenced
therefore I will not engage in any flame war
And my information came from AW itself
therefore researched and confirmed

I'd swear you and Linn are brother and sister...

Gather around, children! It's time for a lesson in Basic English!

sponsor - n. 1. One who assumes responsibility for another person or a
group during a period of instruction, apprenticeship, or probation.
2. One who vouches for the suitability of a candidate for admission.
3. One that finances a project or an event carried out by another person
or group, especially a business enterprise that pays for radio or
television programming in return for advertising time.

Now class, who can tell me why AWI fits this definition as it pertains
to the CY Awards? Yes, you in the back.

"Because AWI gave them a world, avatars, and models, which normally cost
money to make."

So which definition is that?

"3"

Correct! Even though no money actually changed hands, AWI still financed
the CY Awards because it essentially paid for all the things that it
freely donated to the CYs!

So Wyz, to answer you're question, yes they would be sponsoring you
since they had to pay for Truespace in order to give it to you to do
modeling for them.

*blink* Excuse my confusion, but what am I looking at? The disclaimer looks
fine to me, although less professional than a real disclaimer, but I see
nothing wrong with the content. I've read the thread, but I still can't
understand what's the big deal with the disclaimer. It has nothing to do
with people being cheated out of anything.

I know this is a BAD example, but if any American watches tv, they would've
heard of the show American Idol, like it or not. The contract contestants
signed was that producers, in extreme cases, could bend the rules to their
liking, although they would never do so unless an outright emergency called
for it.

The Cy Awards disclaimer gives me that same feeling, and there's nothing
wrong with that. It just prevents any liability in the worst case scenerio.

Last I checked, Linn, the CY Awards Committee is in charge of the CY
Awards, not the community. They are free to shape the rules however they
see fit, since it's their org. If the entire committee was
democratically elected every year, then perhaps you'd have more reason
to complain, but as it stands now, it's their decision to make, not
yours. All you can do is vote for the winner. And be glad you have even
that privilege, as most awards systems have no such community
involvement whatsoever.

I guess when some people in the community gets a taste of power, they're
extremely reluctant to relinquish it, no matter how trivial it may be,
especially when they find out they were never in control to begin with...

Linn, goober is right. The Cy Awards have nothing to do with the community,
or with Active Worlds as a whole. It is a private awards program, started
by, and run by a few people.

I made the same mistake in thinking that this program was at a community or
Active Worlds level. It's not. The 'Cy means Community' slogan they use
apparantly refers only to the fact that they, as goober points out, allow
the community to vote. Other than that, it has nothing to do with the
community as a whole that I can see.

Goob is right -- they are free to make up any rules they wish, no matter how
crazy. The same as you and I, Linn, could start our own little private
awards program tomorrow, and we could make up any rules we want.

Usually though, with programs like this, if people don't like the way it is,
they can just choose not to participate. In this case, what's odd is that
when you tell them you don't like it and you don't want to participate, they
force you to. (People who attempt to withdraw are told they are not
"allowed" to. Go look at all the signs for all the people who have
withdrawn still up in the new voting center.)

Finally, what really sums it up is goob's final statement about people
getting a taste of power. The people who run this awards program have come
to believe that they wield significant power. When pleaded with to be a bit
more open minded and open up the program so that it is more for the
community, they feel threatened because they fear the loss of what they see
as their power.

The best thing to do at this point, for the people who want an awards
program that is fair, equitable, for the community, and recognizes talent,
instead of just being some odd sort of popularity contest, is to do what the
Cy group has done -- start another awards program that *is* geared toward
the community and *does* recognize talent. Anyone and everyone is free to
do so.

This is my last post on the topic of the Cy awards.

WOULD YOU LOT SHUT UP AND STOP BICKERING!!!!

I try as hard as I can to stay silent in these arguements, but the way
in which you are talking these days are really getting to me. As Student
Union President and South Wales rep., I believe in group work, so that
together we can achieve our full potential. Believe me, its hard work.
In the 3 years I have been a cit, I have never ever come across any
major complaints about the CY Awards as I have done this past month. WE are
a community. Can we not try and work as one? Yes, the CY Exec. Team made
some mistakes, but can any of you say you are perfect? I know I can't. Those
who have known me for a while know of my mistakes. If everyone was perfect,
what a boring place this would be.
Alot of people are saying that AWC (or whatever its called) will drive
us into the ground. I disagree. It'll be there very community, US, that'll
finish us off. HenrikG has the right idea. He "definitly [does] not get
involved with the coldness of these newsgroups". Do you blame him? Another
thing...you all complained about Eep. Now look at yourselves! Your getting
as bad as him.
I once had respect for those who read and posted on this NG, but these
days, it makes me feel ashamed to read it. On the matter of the CY's. Give
the peeps a chance! You've made your complaint, and now nomination's have
gone in for the new Exec. Team. Patience is a virtue! I personally support
ANYONE who can stand up and say "I'm doing this event. Come join in". Bravo
to you.
Now, if I have a problem with something or someone, I tell them.
However, once I tell them, thats it. It does no good to dwell on negative
matters. If you do have a problem however, try some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!
It goes a long way, and the person you shared the criticism with won't feel
so bad. Now, c'mon peeps, enough is enough.

Please feel free to flame. I don't care anymore.

I don't seem to recall contradicting opinions ever being called flames. Syn
did flame you, but the least you can do is to stop trying to be saintly and
at least think about why you posted this in the first place instead of
claiming that you will not engage in any flame war. You're just dragging up
muck that has already been passed over. Which is one cause of flame wars of
many if I remember correctly.
