Have you seen any? I sure haven't! Do you think they need some? Yeh! What is
their other biggg problem? They're losing users because the cost is too
high. Now... how do you combine these problems into one solution...
I think AWCom should allow users to put banners on their websites, links in
their forum signatures, and links in their e-mail signatures. It would be
setup so that people who click that and download ActiveWorlds just as a
tourist, count off about $1.00 from the annual fee of the person who had
reffered that person to ActiveWorlds.
If that person buys a citizenship, then the cost could be maybe $4 or $5 off
the annual fee of the referrer. This would get people to stay with AW
because if they were devoted enough to get enough people to ActiveWorlds,
they could afford the cost that came out of their pockets. For those who did
a lot online such as e-mailiing and forums and such, it wouldn't be nearly
as hard. You could just put the link in your signatures and let the money
roll in and for some people, they may not even have to pay one cent for the
year.
I don't know if AWCom actually watches these boards, but I sure hope they
see this because I think this would bennefit both parties a lot!

I like your way of thinking hon. AW certainly needs to get "out there" and
publicize more. I'm sure there are many forms of advertising just waiting to
be utilized, all over the world, including the internet. How often do we
surf the web and see those annoying flashing banners advertising online
casinos?? Or website hostings?? I think the idea of getting some reward for
referring a paying customer is not only a great idea, but it is a
competitive one. I don't think I've ever heard of anything like that in
other universes. Then again, I've only visited a handful. LOL. I do hope
AWCom considers this idea, and if they implement it I hope they acknowledge
the clever person who suggested it with some kind of discount. ~ ;-"D

Hi everyone:
Dion, on paper (and in an ideal physical world), this would work, however,
there is no such thing as an ideal physical world as it's been proven that
Affiliate Programs aren't the gold mines everyone *thought* they were when
the idea was first conceived. Add to the fact that many Dot Coms are going
out of business COMPLETELY and that just merely compunds things.
But, I do agree with you to this end. Half a loaf is better than *no* loaf
at all. I think Aw *should* set up an Affiliates program as it would help
defray at least *some* of their day to day costs. But I wouldn't stop at
just 2D Homepages. I think AWcom should include an object yard full of ads
which can be easily created on 3D Homepages and AW builds alike. In fact,
AWcom could stratigically sprinkle these signs along roadways in AlphaWorld
much like you would see an advertisement for "Joe's Garage" out on a country
road somewhere out in the middle of the open plains.
Would it pay off??? If enough signs were there, yet it would. Would it be
a gold mine??? No. But it would help to pay some of the bills AWcom has to
pay on a daily basis though.
Anyone else care to comment??/ Throw knives, darts and/or cast iron
skillets??? Hurl flames??? Go right ahead. It's your turn. :-)

i may be wrong but your saying advertise for AW, in AW? That doesn't make
much sense to me as the only people who would see the signs in the worlds,
advertising for AW, are people who are already using the product and the
would have no use for that.
Clear this up if im wrong.

I believe Dion was talking about advertising FOR AW, not IN AW.

I think PC is trying to say that advertising IN AW would also help advertise
FOR AW. Because, advertisements are a two way street.rwx, being that if AW
is putting ads in AW for other companies, other companies are putting ads in
their advertising places for AW. Thus, an affiliate program. However, I
don't see millions of AW users clicking on the ads already placed in gz. To
put them elsewhere throughout the universe might be risky. But, a random
newbie DOES click on those ads, and placed in the right worlds (game sites
in AWBingo, teen or clothing sites in AWTeen, etc), advertising in such a
manner wouldn't be too bad of an idea, even if it is an eyesore.

Zeo, AWcom could set up an Affiliates Program like Commission Junction
whereas other dot coms could place banner advertisements on the AW system
and the clients (i.e. the ones world/3D Homepage owners who carry their
banner ad signs) would get a small percentage of the commission. If they
have enough $$$, the (the payee weho's the world or 3D Homepage owner) could
either have AWcom credit them with services or they could have AWcom to send
out a check to spend however they see fit.
I believe that's what I was getting at... :-)
Clear now??? Cheers :-)

EXACTLY Normy!!! And given the fact that many 3D Homepages are linked to
existing 2D websites, 3D Homepage should be tourist accessible because many
of the newbies *will come from* the traffic generated by 2D websites.
However, does that mean tradional world owners should have to pay $60 to
make their worlds tourist accessible??? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! If tradional
world owners should have to shell out *anything*, it shouldn't be anymore
than $20 and *nothing at all* if their world is hosted by AW. I should
think that's at least somewhat reasonable.
Plus, later on down the road (like several months down the road), AWcom
could also set up a commissions program similar to Commission Junction
whereas they use the AW system to advertise other dot coms as well. I don't
see anything stopping them......
