Download the BuildBot from Hanfon's (http://home.sprintmail.com/~ncrowle/hamfon.htm) homepage, unzip, and move all files into a subdirectory or onto the desktop. Open BuildBot.ini in Notepad and change the "number" and "password" fields to your cit number and priviledge password. Then try running the .exe and see if it'll stay open. P.S. - if the program returns reason 454 upon opening, the problem is almost certainly not a "Version Mismatch" as the SDK Help implies...the AW.DLL file is missing from your directory. Put it there :) -Sme Bot IdeasNov 16, 2001, 12:57am

I have an extremely complex but pretty interesting bot idea for world administrators. An interpreter bot - a bot that interprets RWX code and builds/uploads objects. I know I can make a very simple program like the *nix "cat >> foobar" that will build the file. I know I can fork and call shell scripts to zip and ftp the RWX files. But what I'd really like to see is an sdk handler for incoming files (Yeah, you know, that file transfer feature people aren't really using). I'd like the interpreter bot to be able to receive texture files. 'Course I could always have the bot download images that were already online and rename them to match the RWX file... -Sme Bots/Sdk/LanguagesNov 21, 2001, 10:52am

As bowen points out, QBasic is a very easy language to use and learn. An
added benefit: the compilers and much reference material are available online for free. However, you probably want to start programming bots in the well-documented C++ or VisualBasic SDKs, then come back and experiment on writing bots in QBasic so that you can do bigger projects more easily. Or not. -Sme :) can a bot be created using this program language?Nov 23, 2001, 10:13pm

Z80, huh? That'd be pretty awesome: me in my Calc class with a cable
stretching *all* the way back to my desktop from my TI-85, sending TCP/IP packets on a male-to-male sound cable, controlling a bot in Activeworlds. I hope I can play Tetris at the same time :o) Be careful with assembler in Windows, data21...remember that there will be a few runtime errors because Windows runs in Protected Mode. Also, be sure to match the source with the correct ASM compiler (think NASM or MASM or CHASM) because you are liable for a gigantic mess otherwise. Good look! :o) -Sme Looking for People who want to help rebuild a worldNov 6, 2001, 9:20am

If you're really out of good world ideas, then I'll give you one I've been saving for the AWEDU report card program. Four words: Silence of the Lambs. Hire out for some decent Disemboweled Italian and Man-Eating Swine avatars and build the scenes from both movies. Then you can have one of those TourBots surfing visitors around the storyline. Tell me that's not a good idea. -Sme Unfair Voting Procedure for Avatars 2001Dec 3, 2001, 9:30am

> The bot did not work properly.
> At times, the bot was not present. Happy anniversary of the 2000 elections. Think of the votes that didn't get counted when the bot wasn't online as "dimpled chads." -Sme The wallh*.rwx SeriesJan 14, 2002, 7:40pm
An interesting note on this topic:
After I [briefly] viewed the wallh6.rwx file in Notepad I gave it a whirl in RWModeler, where it appeared to be perfectly rendered with neither the gray overlapping nor the two-sided triangle that interrupts the frame of the door. Implementation error? "T-minus 0200 hours till production build! Set warp factor to "crufty!" --- M.E. Wahl "I find the computer becomes me trouble-shooter. My wish is his command! Nothing is astute-r Than a computer When I need...a helping hand!" -"Future World" exhibit at Walt Disney World The wallh*.rwx SeriesJan 15, 2002, 11:24am
Oops...sorry SW, I got that Stallman book on Jargon for Christmas :)
"Crufty" is an adjective meaning temporarily workable but very poorly constructed, like a gingerbread house made with pancakes for want of graham crackers. Right after I hypothesized that the problem with wallh9.rwx was an implementation error of Activeworlds, not a problem with the actual file, I made this joke about what was, possibly, happening at AW Inc right before the release of 3.2: My jokes suck :P -- Sme Unfair Voting Procedure for Avatars 2001Dec 3, 2001, 9:30am
