ok, i've dled the caVisualSurveyor.exe stuff but where is the source code? who wrote it? It starts by asking me for my priv password, which slightly unnerves me :( Many thanks for all the lucid explanation in your post. BTW i've seen the Mars stuff, very nice! An excellent idea, if such a page exists i haven't been able to find it.
It would be best to ask across all newsgroups in any case (hopefully this post will do that). The official pages at http://www.activeworlds.com (which as of this moment are down!) prettily cover most of the subjects but are quite weak on building and bots and offer few outside links. Collecting it all together in one place would be very helpful indeed! Here are the few links i've found: http://website.lineone.net/~toyou.myspare/help/ - basic rwx editing http://members.home.net/lloydda/virtechs/ - objects & avatars http://objects.activeworlds.com/misc/aw30/ - version 3 development http://vevo.com/intro.html - Alpha World map http://home.sprintmail.com/~ncrowle/hamfon.htm - bot stuff http://www.storage.co.hu/modular.html - AW landscape generator http://www.peacekeeper.net/ - peacekeepers pages http://members.xoom.com/Epips/lessons/lesson1part1.htm - rwx modeling tutorial -- cu Re: Quasi-Aw help pagesJan 8, 2000, 10:47pm

When showing ppl about in AW, especially new users, the ability to bind
or link to another would be very useful. A group binding would be helpful for guided tours. So when moving about or teleporting, a 'leader' would be able to move the entire group in formation synchronously to another place. 'bound' or 'linked' usersDec 30, 1999, 9:58am

O for a cleaner, better chat interface. Those familiar with irc and icq
chat will know what i have in mind. o clean separation of the whisper window and the public one o ability to scroll back the chat window text without having new text pushing it back o ability to scroll back through one's own text, edit and resend it (irc) o click on paste buffer for user name or text string (see irc) o extra paste buffers for preset text strings o perhaps colour capability? midnight thunder put into words:

I find they add yet one more dimension to expression; quite useful for communicating emotions, as long as they're not overdone. A better chat interfaceDec 29, 1999, 7:44am

AW without chat is like a newsgroup without posts :) Are you saying john that you don't like the chat facility in the AW browser? As with most media 99% of chat rooms are of dubious value, yet if you're careful and selective that 1% is quite invaluable. Improving the interface to make it easier and more intuitive is well worth doing IMHO. A better chat interfaceDec 30, 1999, 9:56am

An improvement, however it would be a cylindrical world and rather a messy solution. Ideally, Riemannian Geometry would be used throughout, although local approximation to a flat surface might be be necessary to simplify building and reduce computation overhead.
