A better chat interface (Wishlist)
A better chat interface // WishlistlexxusDec 28, 1999, 3:22pm
O for a cleaner, better chat interface. Those familiar with irc and icq
chat will know what i have in mind. o clean separation of the whisper window and the public one o ability to scroll back the chat window text without having new text pushing it back o ability to scroll back through one's own text, edit and resend it (irc) o click on paste buffer for user name or text string (see irc) o extra paste buffers for preset text strings o perhaps colour capability? midnight thunderDec 28, 1999, 5:02pm
I don't like the colour idea, sometimes the people use colors so bright that
you must strain your eyes to read it. I like the rest of the ideas. [View Quote] lexxusDec 28, 1999, 8:47pm
midnight thunder put into words:

I find they add yet one more dimension to expression; quite useful for communicating emotions, as long as they're not overdone. john viperDec 29, 1999, 2:40am

[View Quote] Personally I don't like chat rooms. I have NEVER had a good experience in them and it seems everyone is immature, and ts half the way they modify their text. The only thing I would like to use to modify the chat text would be italics, nothing else. Maybe an action thing (like "John Viper passes SomeOne a note") but that is almost getting to chat-room-like. /\ /\ My two cents /\ /\ -- John Viper (A.K.A.: Jeffrey W. AW without chat is like a newsgroup without posts :) Are you saying john that you don't like the chat facility in the AW browser? As with most media 99% of chat rooms are of dubious value, yet if you're careful and selective that 1% is quite invaluable. Improving the interface to make it easier and more intuitive is well worth doing IMHO. john viperDec 29, 1999, 11:00am

I was just voting against making AW too much like a chat room. The only reason I would say "Go fer it!" to removing the chat text window is if they made it possible to speak. :) > I was just voting against > making AW too much like a chat room. why do you want to vote against extensions to the chat interface as long as they are optional to the user? > The only reason I would say "Go fer it!" to removing the chat text window is if they > made it possible to speak. you can speak now if you use a third party program. |
