Ignore on telegrams

Jul 16, 2000, 7:07pm
"Block other users from putting me on their contact list"
"Delete me from (this user's) contact list"

Nice? The more power us users are given, the less aw has to rely on pk
justice.

Protecting Children

Jul 16, 2000, 11:25pm
I'm not a parent, but the ones I know seem to think that their children are
human and have a natural right to act as such as long as it doesn't bother
anybody else. They encourage some behaviors and discourage others. The
parents and children cooperate with each other, they aren't
jailor--prisoner.

As it stands, the adult setting serves as the "adult content" sign. Having
the "adult" worlds listed notes them as normal, as some "adults" consider
"adult" content.

On the other hand, I have no problem with adding password protection as long
as you have to check sompm to activate it. (I just love checkboxes)

How about avatars that assemble on the fly?

male / muscle body / black hair & mustache / blue pants / red shirt / dark
skin

A few small parts would make many large bodies!

some suggestions

Jul 16, 2000, 8:52pm
width 1 panels would be great sometimes -- positioned by shifting.

I've decided to build ranch style (single floor) from now on. After the roof
is built, I never have enough cell space to place furniture. It seems
strange to design 2D floorplans in 3D graphics, but such is life. Once again
I get to say, "HA computer, I am smarter than you are!"

Bump Map Support

Jul 16, 2000, 9:06pm
Although an embossed texture gives a decent impression of 3D, a true bump
map is continuosly rerendered to support scene lighting and pov. A bumped
object (ie. the cracks in a stone wall) will change perspective as you move.

I wouldn't say it's a way to lower polygon count tho. It just makes those
polygons bumpy.

name color change

It occurs to me that Lara, (among many others), uses V2 because of card
compatibily issues. When is she hoping to get this upgrade? Does aw still
update V2?

AW not a game

Jul 16, 2000, 10:00pm
You can make a bot for inventory, bloodshed, etc. You can even make it chase
your butt around and delete itself after you hack it to quarks.

Jumping would be awesome for those worlds with flight turned off.

out of order

Jul 16, 2000, 6:59pm
I'm a newbie, but a daily user at activeworlds for about a month. These are
my first impressions:

1) I'd like more perception of distance in chat. One way would be to have
nearby people (an inner circle) printed in italics or an otherwise
"different" font.

2) The "above the head" chat setting is unreadable because of lack of
background and pretty much useless. Adding a background pane (like the
description-mouseovers) would help. I agree in advance that this is still
not especially useful, but possibly cuter.

touchable objects

Jul 16, 2000, 10:10pm
Sometimes, not terribly often, it might maybe be nice to create an object
that other people can touch/edit.

A few examples off the top of my head:
-Put "create sign create message" in the action box and anybody is allowed
to edit the text of a sign.
-Put "create moveable distance=10" in the action box and anybody is allowed
to move the object within 10 meters of where you (the owner) put it.
-Put "bump deleteable" and anybody can delete it (permanently) by bumping it

On the horizon

Jul 17, 2000, 5:00pm
I see Aw as a community environment. It's a chat engine with (3D) visual
components. The fact that you can customise the visual components is what
makes it special. It doesn't replace the web, it doesn't replace games. It
does replace (irc/java) chat and to some extent homepaging.

I don't see vast potential in the Aw interface for games right now, but
there are a LOT of gamers out there.

Gamelike features that I think non-gamers would most like to see (once V3 is
working 100%):

1) movable objects
2) a new world subscription with free setup and limited space hosting
included for a nominal fee ($50/year and/or ad driven).
3) user-friendly (idiot proof) bot scripting tools.

Will it compete with NWN worlds for hardcore gamers? Nope, but NWN/etc
wouldn't be able to compete with Aw for the softcore/community.

This post probably belongs in wishlist but the _point_ I'm trying to make is
that to be economical each change should benefit the maximum number of
users.
I don't think that's too much to ask.

The Petition's the Thing!

Jul 17, 2000, 1:42pm
As an outsider, it looks like your the one in need of a smack eep. Did you
tell your present employer he had it all wrong, was heading in the wrong
direction, and should bring back old personel? No? Maybe you should see what
it gets you - of course say that your opinion of him won't affect your
perfomance, he'll love that.

What you've (hopefully) learned may be a lesson of value later in life. I
think it goes, "Don't burn the bridges in front of you."

The Petition's the Thing!

Jul 17, 2000, 5:00pm
For the time and effort they take to complete, petitions are a great way to
collect feedback.

Many citizens would rather play in aw than get involved in newsgroups. I'd
guess that we are the uncommon (read "weird") users, our opinions don't
necessarily reflect the general citizenship. Petitions do that to a much
greater extent.

Aw needs feedback to be able to please its users, that's why we're here. But
imho, petitions are better. If you don't agree with a petition's priorities,
don't sign. Any logistical problems with a petition can be dealt with at
awcom - not every desire is possible to fullfill, but knowing what the
desires are is of utmost importance.

The Petition's the Thing!

Jul 18, 2000, 3:12pm
I wrote a little game a while back (I'm no George Lucas, I really mean
little) and had a kid playtest it for me. He kept coming up with suggestions
that would have me rewrite the whole rules and rules concept to implement,
but he had no understanding of this. Every message ended with, "I guess this
must be hard, huh?" lol Even when I used his ideas as close as possible
within the constraints of the platform, he refused to acnowledge the
similarity. He had a particular goal in mind and anything short of it was
invisible.

Technically I could have stripped everything and rebuilt under his guidance,
if I had time and inclination, but the fact remained that he was invited to
make _suggestions_ not demands :-)

My point? Maybe I don't have one. I haven't been around long enough to guess
what's going on.

You shouldn't worry about a WORD or SENTENCE in caps.

Caps are commonly used for emphasis.

IT'S TYPING EVERYTHING YOU SAY IN CAPS THAT'S SO EFFING ANNOYING!!!!! lol
