I can't see it to add re's to it, but dose anyone remember the post I made
about something using up around 1 GB of space each time I ran my V scanner?
well this time I watched it along with the size of my hard drive and right
when the scanner got to the directory C:/windows/temp it stopped and
repeatedly scanned that temp folder, during this is when something is eating
my hard drive up, I stopped the scan and it would not stop, I had to do a
ctrl alt delete on it to stop it.
in that temp folder I found 4 sub directories that are near 900MB each.
each of them directories only have 1 file 0.dll
the directory names are
C:/windows/temp/0333bab0
C:/windows/temp/Zipa294
C:/windows/temp/Zipb121
C:/windows/temp/08xtmp

Would it be safe to remove these or anything in that temp folder?

One of the first things anyone should do when they're running out of HD
space is to clean out your temp folders. The reason they're called
"temp" is because they're supposed to be temporary. Unfortunately, some
programs (like your virus scanner, apparently) are naughty and don't
clean up after themselves, leaving huge amounts of data in the temp
folders to just collect dust (and more data).

So, in answer to your question, YES! Clean that sucker out ASAP! And
while you're at it, clean out your Temporary Internet Files folder and
any caches you may have (i.e. AW, Netscape, etc).

it's ALLWAYS safe to delete anything in your temp dirs :-)) (usually you
find C:\temp\ and [WindowsPath]\temp)

there is 1 file it will not let me remove that is in that temp folder its
only 261 bytes.
it is called
WebPoolFileFile
it is not read only. it says its being used, I opened it to see what it was
and all that's in it is my computers name and Admin.
Ex. name Admin.

WinXP? Win2k?
You've got some serious PEBKAC issues and quite honestly, you should be
using Win98SE, or for someone of your apparent intelligence, WinME.

This file most possibly indicates your computer's current logon state,
though judging by the filename it's likely for some other purpose. [I'm no
WinNT expert, I avoid that kernel like the plauge, security patching for
obvious duh's on dialup isn't my idea of fun]

Well you know some things are best not to bother, so I don't.
I vary rarely go picking around in the windows directory, can be bad if you
mis click anything hehe.
And I got windows 98.
This PC is about 4 years old. not upgrading to a new OS till I really need
to.
Besides keeping up with all the newest stuff and you will be poor all your
life till you stop it lol.
I can read all about the new stuff but will not buy it till I have a need
for it.
Im not a network user so I have no use for windows 2000 or NT, or any other
networking OS.
And oh yea, I have been messing with computers sense I was 6 :-P
I am 21 now.

Win2k is one of the better windows.. it's not really for networking just it
has better capabilites then most other ones. Win98SE works fine.. just
because you've been messing with computers since you were 6 doesn't make you
any better at it ;). That's like saying.. I've gone fishing everday of my
life.. but I've never caught a fish. And since you seem to be having oh so
much trouble with your computer.. I suggest you scrap it and get a new one.
You most likely A. Have (a) bad sector(s) on your hard drive. B. Have a
very nasty virus/worm or C. an overclocked Chip.. that could explain
everything that's wrong with your computer.

I've been messing with computers since I was 6, I've used every major CPU
out there, excluding that lame Via POS and the Pentium 4, every release of
Windows excluding XP final [I did, however participate in the beta program]
and I'm only 15.

It seems to me that if you've been messing around that the Windows directory
would be a second home to you. More likely that you've just been using.
Also, you'd have the sense to keep spares of various easy-to-fail components
around (modems, drives, video) that are suitable temporaries, though not
necessarily of the same caliber.

Try this: Boot up in DOS. Delete the offending files there.
Win98 has no "admin" that I'm aware of and these are probably used by some
sort of TSR, possibly a virus or worm operating on your machine.

if you want something stable, and still run Windows, get NT 4 or Win2k...
most stable Windows releases I've seen... or if you want *real* stability,
get DOS (not the new patched versions made to be compatible with Win32, but
DOS 6), it's the MS OS I've had the least problems with... and if you've
been using computers since you were 6, you probably know how to use the
command-line too... to get even better stability, and something a bit more
up to date, get Linux, that's the good stuff...
