It's especially convienent with the Mozilla Suite -- click a link in Mozilla Mail, and it pops right up in the browser.
Just my two cents.

CP, sorry if it is inconvenient for you. A link to my What's New page
is very convenient for me:
1) it saves bandwidth here and in other newsservers and forums,
especially as I cross-post.
2) it allows me to write extensive descriptions, with links to other
pages. This is in everyone's benefit. I would not be able to do this
here.
3) the "What's new" page centralises the info, and is also available
from the x1 bot's menu "help > omline > what's new"
So I will carry on posting the link to my page. If you do not wish to
activate the link from your newsreader, you can copy it to the
clipboard, close the reader and open the web browser, then paste the
url there... very complicated, but saves in memory usage.

there is no activation from a newsreader...and the way you just
described about opening it in a browser defeats the prupose. it does not
save any badnwidth on here..aw doesnt ever complain about lacking
bandwidth..and actually html links take more bandwidth than your short
paragraph sayign

My point was that someone concerned with memory shouldn't be using
Thunderbird in the first place.
And in any case:

Try tacking less crap onto your browser.

He's talking about people in countries where you have to pay by the megabyte
for what you download. He's talking about saving their bandwidth.
Although, to be honest, in this day and age, newgroup text hardly puts a
dent in your wallet. Or even your change jar.

I wasnt aware a stock browser + developer plugin was "full of crap". I
wasnt aware there was any option to thunderbird when it comes to
supperior mail and news browsing. Please, tell me where I can get
something that works like thunderbird, but takes less memory! Please do!

Im on this darn staffs university LAN which can go at upto 2MB a second on
some days and 0.2kbps on others.
I appreciate small file size on the newsreader where you want to read
through them quickily.

In any given day there aren't enough posts to equal 100 kilobytes. a 56k
modem can download that in less than 15 seconds and a 28.8k modem in less
than 30.

I know o_0 but it helps if I can click a link to open a page (good) instead
of having to wait for a huge newsgroup post to download, preventing me from
reading any other posts.

True. Sux. :( Unfortunately, if the internet truly served the lowest
common denominator users, everything would still be in text bbs.
