Is it just me or does everyone else find it annoying that to go up hills or
even sometimes up stairs u have to hold the - key? lol. and...since that Roland person I dunno what his name was didn't like the fast turning feature...they can just remove it? who cares about him. I mean what makes it even worse...is that he removed it then like a week or two later he left AW. Why couldn't they have just made it optional, if they did that idiot wouldn't have have removed a good feature, lol agent1Jul 9, 2002, 7:30pm
It's not like he just went into AW's code and chopped out something that said "turning happens quickly when pressing control". It
most likely is related to the new animation engine AW is using. Roland was AW's head programmer for a long time and has earned the respect of people in this community, unlike you. Maybe you should consider that before calling someone an idiot. -Agent1 [View Quote] syntaxJul 9, 2002, 7:33pm
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at you calling Roland an idiot. Roland is anything
but an idiot and I think most of the community can agree with me on that one. ....and what "fast-turning feature" are you talking about anyway? -- - Syntax - >_< at some people. syn at swcity.net [View Quote] robbieJul 9, 2002, 7:54pm
Roland is NOT an idiot. He has contributed as much to this communit as Rick
Noll or Ron Britvich. (well maybe Rick isnt such a good example *wink*). Perhaps if you knew what you were talking about instead of making yet another useless post you wouldnt make yourself look like such an "idiot". -Robbie [View Quote] bowenJul 9, 2002, 8:01pm
Actually, it is as simple as chopping out that piece of code that control
affects turning. And no, it didn't have anything to do with the engine, he said that he can't control himself when he's running with control. --Bowen-- [View Quote] zeo toxionJul 9, 2002, 10:47pm
Your opinions do not make someone an idiot. Compared to older versions, the
turning speed is much better. Although I could say that holding ctrl should make you turn slightly faster rather then not faster at all, I will not call someone an idiot for making this choice because he probably had a reason for it that I have never questioned. Having Roland being head programmer for all of AW's history until recently (I'm pretty sure he's been here since the beginning) I can say that his decisions are usually best, and he would never change something just because he feels like it. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A message from Zeo Toxion -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [View Quote] goober kingJul 9, 2002, 10:58pm
He's referring (in his usual, non-articulate manner) to the ability to
hold down CTRL while turning to make yourself turn faster. Management wanted Roland to take it out because they figured newbies wouldn't be able to control themselves while running. I guess the next thing they need to do is install something to help newbies control themselves while typing. :P [View Quote] > Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at you calling Roland an idiot. also...how the hell can u not control ur self while running u
just...maybe...STOP running...lol...he IS an idiot, lol [View Quote] goober kingJul 12, 2002, 12:14am
*sigh* Roland was not the idiot; it was the idiots above him that told
him to take it out. He was just following orders. You looking to take Rick's job or something? :P [View Quote] > also...how the hell can u not control ur self while running u > just...maybe...STOP running...lol...he IS an idiot, lol [View Quote] -- Goober King Certainly couldn't get any *worse*! robrod at prism.net eepJul 12, 2002, 3:34am
Where did you hear it was "management" (Rick and JP) who wanted fast turning removed? I've only ever read it as Roland himself arbitrarily taking it out because HE didn't like it--as if a last-ditch "rebellious" outburst against the oppressive management or something--perhaps me. Note: I'm the one who suggested it in the first place. ;)
Oh and fix your quoting system: it's adding extra lines. I've cleaned it up this time. [View Quote] > *sigh* Roland was not the idiot; it was the idiots above him that told > him to take it out. Seemed to recall he said it during some Tech Talk or other that it was
management's idea. I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time :P). And, even though you may have "cleaned up" your act, it's nice to see that some things don't change. ;) [View Quote] > Where did you hear it was "management" (Rick and JP) who wanted fast turning removed? Uh, it was YOUR act I cleaned up, Goob. ;) Not this time though--you should look into configuring your newsreader better...

Hi everyone:
[View Quote] *I* have THAT problem if I use the mouse as the controller (which is EXACTLY why I *don't* use mouse control while on the AW Universe :-)). At least with the keyboard, all I have to do is simply LET UP off the keyboard whenever I want to stop, change positions, etc. :-) > I guess the next thing they need to do is install >something to help newbies control themselves while > typing. :P In a way, I *kinda sorta* wish they *would* as then this way, we'd have FEWER "little trolls" roaming the worlds doing or saying things they shouldn't.... :-) Cheers for now :-) Patrick |
