This isn't fully related to AW, but I was hoping some of you might be able to help.

Here's what I have:
1ghz AMD K7 T-Bird Processor
Sound Blaster LIVE! Audio Card
nVidia eVGA Video Card, 64 MB
640.0 MB Ram. (yes, 640, wasn't a typo)
MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition Mother Board
20 GB Western Digital 7200 RPM Hard Drive
WindowsME

My Problem:
A) When Launching Active Worlds version 3.1, the mouse cursor becomes hourglass; busy; and remains that way untill selecting
something at which it returns to normal state, without 3.1 opening. When I Control-Alt-Del, it shows the program 'Aworld' as
active. I have installed, un-installed, and re-installed it numerous times to no avail. Any Ideas on a possible problem would be
greatly appreciated, as it would on the problem below.

B) Not AW Related, but I was hoping to get your input. Whenever launching an audio application, I get an error stating that the
audio driver is already in use, thus not allowing me to have ANY audio. I honestly have no idea what the problem could be, but I
would be very happy if you all could help me resolve both without having to take the system in, thanks.

That's interesting... not sure what's causing it. Try shutting down all
programs on your computer except for Explorer, Systray, and your Internet
Connection. If it starts up fine, then turn the programs on one by one and
start AW each time to narrow down the list of programs conflicting with AW.

No actually that's a pretty outdated system. Since you're still running on a
350MHz because mommy and daddy won't buy you a new one, then that is a nice
system compared to yours.

*looks up from his biology textbook* Whee, I'm needed.

1) LOSE WINDOWS ME! Win98SE has the same compatability, if not better and
has fewer, errrrr, issues.
2) Detonator 3 drivers for video card.
3) LiveWare 3 drivers for sound card.
4) Put a real fan on that tbirdy.
5) Find Motherboard Monitor (software) and configure it to watch your CPU
temps. 50C is bad place for your CPU to be. 30 is ideal.
6) Install DirectX 8a, or whatever the heck the latest version is.

If that doesn't fix it, contact me at wing at systemrecall.com and I'll see if
I can't recreate it as closely as I can.

I had that "audio driver is already in use" or something very similar. I am
having trouble remembering how I fixed it but I will give you what I can.

Using explorer I clicked on "view" and selected "folder options". From
there I selected the "File Types" tab.

Next go down the menu to "audio cd", select it, and click edit. At this
point I go blank, but it has something to do with the "play" being bold, or
not, or which application it uses, or setting something as default, or
whatever. I *think* that I got some tips out of windows help on how it
should be. Try playing around with it.

Good Luck, Justin

mm.. I beg to differ. Outdated means the majority of users don't use it
anymore. As far as I know the majority of computer users aren't up to 1 Ghz
yet.

HEH, I still run a 66MHz :)
Albeit as a toy/Linux test platform/DOS legacy support.

By standards in my home town set by the High School, where the VAST majority
of computers are located, 33MHz is approximately average. Does this mean
that my 66MHz machine, by Hereford standards, is not outdated?

Outdated is anything older than two point five years.

The 1 Ghz mark isn't there yet at any rate. =P

Have you been living in a cave or something? 1GHz is slow by today's
standards. I actually don't know of anyone who has anything below 1GHz now.
All of you just wait for your mommy and daddies to buy you new systems since
you are too lazy to get your own jobs.

Look at this wing.... We're sooo sorry Internal Affairs that we aren't as
financially well off as you. And in fact, some of us that you are referring
to as children are indeed legal adults in charge of their own monetary
capital and also have things like tuition to take care of? Like me. In
fact, I just upgraded to a 733 mhz processor in February, when it was new on
the shelf in my neck of the woods. So be careful who you insult. You seem
to be awful at that sort of thing.

And figure out what "today's standards" really means. Just because your
friends may waste money on the fastest processors that none of today's
applications take advantage of doesn't mean that slower ones are yesterday's
news.

And just becuase someone has a differing opinion of something than you do
doesn't mean their wrong. Figure it out guys. Come on. Why do I even post
anymore? <ego>Oh.... right. I'm trying to make a difference. *sigh*
Being a leader is so hard these days... </ego> =P

What the FUCK are you talking about? Goddamn, what do you do to your car?
Pump it up with phat exhaust pipes and take a screwdriver to your muffler
and attatch quadruple wings to your trunk in hopes of being cool?

1GHz is by far NOT standard AT ALL yet. My primary use CPU is a 700MHz by
design, though I've milked it to nearly double that. The STANDARD system is
a Dell Dimension 4100, which, if you will do a little research, has sold
twice as many 900MHz units than 1GHz units. And ferchrissake you lamer, CPU
speed is by far NOTHING compared to CPU bandwidth. What good is a 2.0 GHz
computer which is causing a traffic jam on the FSB by essentially trying to
cram 2000 semi trucks onto a three lane highway about 4 miles long. A 1.8GHz
Athlon 4, on the other hand, does the same, except using a six lane highway
and 1800 trucks.

Don't get the analogy? Go back to PC school, riceboy.

Wing, out.

[View Quote] 1GHz is not slow by todays standards *pats his 1.2 T-bird*. Hell, how many
people are still out there playing Quake III? A game released in what...
1999? Get real, IA.

And for your information, I have a job, and I built my own damn computer
(and have been doing so for others for some time now).

So, fuck off, and henceforth, consider yourself filtered.

Reasons:
I've watched you act like an arrogant little brat for several days now. Just
because your mommy and daddy never bought you any presents on your birthday
doesn't mean that you should be an asshole.

Good day, sir.

Actually, yes. My car is modded out from the exhaust-mufflers down to the
neon lights inside. Maybe when you run a dot com of your own and hold 2 jobs
you can afford material items.

I still play Half-Life which was released in early 1998. Much better than
Quake III in my opinion.
