Hi.

I'm a new citizen, and I can't seem to set a valid privilege password.
I went to the Options|Citizen menu and set in the right textbox, but I
cannot seem to log in a bot with my cit number and priv passwd. (reason
code = 43)

Also, in ActiveWorlds, I've asked other folks to try to acquire my
privileges, and they get an invalid password error message.

Anyone else having this problem? Does it just take a while for AW to
update all their records? I just registered today.

TIA

Which bot are you trying to login with and where? If you are trying to
log into AlphaWorld near ground zero (0n 0e), it will not work.

Just the basic GreeterBot from the bot Help examples. I get the error 43 on
aw_login(), which is called before specifying the world to log into.

Also, other citizen avatars in activeworlds said they could not acquire my
privileges in the normal way, i.e., entering my name and ppw from the login
menu.

ppw then you typed in or you were telling them your account password....make

I am having the same problem with non-functioning priv pwds for 2 free
citizenships from a world I purchased 8/29 and one older existing account.
I contacted support at activeworlds.com 8/30 - still no response which in my
experience is unusual. I usually hear back from them the same day.

Keeping my fingers crossed and waiting patiently for an answer from support.

Someone told me I should be able to test my privilege password in ActiveWorlds
by attempting to acquire my own privileges via the Login|Privileges menu. I
tried this, but it just blocked on the dialog box, waiting to look up my id.
After several minutes, a gave up.

Can anyone else access their own id/ppw this way?

uh... RC 43 means that the PPW is wrong... and if you get it in AW as well,
something's wrong...

Just for clarification, are you trying to put your PASSWORD password into
the "privledge password" field when logging in or are you putting your
PRIVILEDGE password? You need to put in the latter.

It shouldn't be a matter of time. I think it should work instantaneously.
But try changing your priviledge one more time and wait a day. Also, make
sure you entered the correct citizen number is all the advice I can give. :)

Good advice. However, it's the same advice I gave myself before deciding to try
posting here. Thanks for responding, though.

Oh well, today's the next day, so I'll try waiting a day from yesterday now.

I sent another message to support after reading this group this morning. I
see that most people view this problem as an error in entering the Priv
PWD - not a system problem. I want to clarify that I am not new to AW and
know how to set a priv pwd, and the difference between regular pwd and a
priv pwd. If this problem effected everyone's accounts, there would be no
need to post here. Checking with friends in AW there are few that are
experiencing this problem so it is easy for others to tend to believe this
is a user error instead of a system error. I hope everyone having this
problem emails support so that this problem comes to thier attention.
Hopefully support at activeworlds.com will read my emails and give me more
credibility than the average newsgroup user.

I emailed support yesterday and today my ppw works. I am wary of post hoc
fallacy. Yet I'm happy with the results.

hm, the problem seems to be a bug in the universe server.
Today I changed username and someone else took my username
for a while - for some jokes.

Now no bot works anymore, I tried new priv. passwords but
no luck. The builder reports RC_UNABLE_TO_CONNECT (429),
one of my own ones (old SDK) means it is more a
RC_ACTING_PASSWORD_INVALID (43)

Both bots work fine in a different universe.

*sigh*
