Has AWI ever donated a dime to any of the reunions? Whilst attending did any
of the AWI peeps pay for their own attendance? Or did they eat on the attendees dime? (not being critical, I just don't know since I never attended one before) [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 12:22pm
With the advent of 4.1 several peeps in the community have gotten banned,
with no proper explanation from the powers that be. Only a copy of the TOS being emailed back to them to "justify" the banning. Just for posting this I'm probably gonna be next but I think it's time this situation is properly addressed. Thoughts anybody? Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 1:55pm

wow.. and for even mentioning those two venues at the AW gate they got a bot
that sends you to the "blue room"! *sighs [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 2:16pm
Definitely odd considering they probably need all the members they can get.
Biting the hand that feeds you is not a good idea. [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 2:49pm
Some folk aren't really giving them grief. Some were banned simply for
putting in a complaint. If you were to purchase a hardware component for say a computer.. or even a toaster that was malfunctioning wouldn't you expect a lil customer service, rather than the blatant slap in the face many folks recieved? [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 3:43pm
hmm.. I was under the impression I was being civil.. How was this thread
whiny or insulting? I believe making a valid point on a recent series of occurances is being constructive, and I honestly feel my wording and phrasing has been civil. How is starting a thread over people being unfairly banned with no explanation "starting a riot"? Isn't making folks aware of an undesirable situation is the first step in correcting it? [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 4:20pm
I know of 3 peeps that got banned.. one of them was a kind girl that never
bothered anybody. Another individual simply tried to get answers to a technical question. How is that inciting anything other than getting a simple answer about the issue they were attempting to deal with? I finally found the TOS, by trying to start a re install of AW.. It may say "they do not guarantee any access or upgrades, but this hardly justifies being kicked off of AW entirely for making an inquiry about it. [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 7:24pm
The three I previously mentioned are only a handful of folks banned after
4.1. Furthermore discouraging clients from asking why or even what can be done to fix a problem with either the software OR unfair policies seems to be many corporations methods of simply not dealing with the problem. The inherent problem however doesn't go away.. and I believe has led to the steady exodus from this 3d venue to others. If everyone else is content to watch a community dwindle to extinction rather than ask the hard questions and try to come up with better solutions, then perhaps the end predicted by many is overdue. Actually what gets flashed past you real quick during an install that many
folks just automatically hit "next" to is the TOS. In a recent thread that was deleted Strike Rapier was astute to point out to me that what is said on a website and what you "click" are oftentimes two different things. Heres the real TOS: BY CLICKING ON THE "NEXT" BUTTON, YOU ARE CONSENTING TO BE BOUND BY AND ARE BECOMING A PARTY TO THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, CLICK THE "CANCEL" BUTTON AND THE INSTALLATION PROCESS WILL NOT CONTINUE. IF THESE TERMS ARE CONSIDERED AN OFFER, ACCEPTANCE IS EXPRESSLY LIMITED TO THESE TERMS. GRANT. Subject to the terms of this Agreement, Activeworlds Inc. ("AWLD") hereby grants you a limited, personal, nontransferable, nonsublicensable, royalty-free, nonexclusive license to use one copy of the client software product you are about to install in object code form ("Software") for the purpose of accessing the Active Worlds server and using the Active Worlds software resident thereon ("AW Software"). You may: copy the Software for archival purposes, provided any copy must contain all of the original Software's proprietary notices; you may use the AW Software subject to the terms and conditions of this license. You may not, directly or indirectly: modify, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble (except to the extent applicable laws specifically prohibit such restriction), create derivative works based on, or otherwise attempt to discover the source code or underlying ideas or algorithms of the Software or AW Software; or copy (except for archival purposes as set forth above), rent, lease, distribute, transfer or otherwise transfer rights to the Software or AW Software; use the Software or AW Software for timesharing or service bureau purposes; or remove any proprietary notices or labels on the Software or AW Software. SOFTWARE. This license does not grant you any right to any enhancement or update. Furthermore, this license does not grant you continued access to AW Software. SUPPORT. This Agreement does not entitle you to any maintenance, upgrades, patches, enhancements, fixes, new versions or other support ("Support Programs") for the Software or AW Software; provided, however, that if you download or otherwise obtain in any manner any Support Programs they shall become part of the Software and the terms of this Agreement shall apply. TITLE. IN NO EVENT WILL AWLD BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES IN EXCESS OF AWLD LIST PRICE FOR A LICENSE TO THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF AWLD SHALL HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TERMINATION. AWLD may, at its sole discretion, terminate this Agreement, the license granted herein, and your right to use or access the Software, AW Software, or the Active Worlds server at any time. On termination, you must destroy all copies of the Software. ARBITRATION. Any claim alleging a violation of any duty incident to this Agreement, or your use of the Software or the AW Software, or arising out of any transaction occurring in Active Worlds, irrespective of the legal theory asserted, is subject to binding arbitration. This means that both sides give up all rights to a jury or court trial. The arbitration will take place, at your choice, either on-line before the Active Worlds Tribunal, or before a panel of arbitrators at the American Arbitration Association offices in Boston, Massachusetts. In the latter instance, both sides shall pay half of the fees and expenses associated with the arbitration proceeding itself, but each side shall be responsible for all costs associated with traveling to the site of the arbitration, preparing for the arbitration, and hiring counsel, if desired. In both cases, both sides shall select an arbitrator from a randomly generated list of available arbitrators, and those two arbitrators shall select a third. No punitive or consequent damages (including without limitation statutory "multiplied," e.g. treble, damages) shall be awarded and the arbitrators shall be made aware of this limitation. EXPORT CONTROLS. By downloading or using the Software, you are agreeing to the foregoing and you are representing and warranting that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any such country or on any such list. MISCELLANEOUS. This Agreement represents the complete license agreement and supersedes all prior agreements and representations and may only be amended by a writing executed by the parties. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable. So the folks that got banned for asking for Linux support were lying? Also I
don't see where I'm griefing anyone. I'm bringing onto the forum an issue that should be considered and addressed, not cast aside as inconsequential. [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 27, 2006, 9:10pm
Atleast 2 peeps were banned that were trying to sort out the Linux problem
Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 28, 2006, 10:55pm
That's the problem. Too few people care. This thread topic I mean...
Personally I don't indulge in SL..too much lag and too many "boreans" over there. But because of the lack of caring and consideration both exhibited in this thread and by AW in general perhaps the not caring part is what may make AW go the way of the dinosaur. [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 31, 2006, 9:25am
My question tho is, why all of a sudden with the advent of 4.1 did so many
people get banned? Why so many? Is AW really trying so very hard to shoot themselves in the foot this way? [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Jul 31, 2006, 11:37am
Broken trust is exactly what I'm talking about with this thread. Problem is
it looks like it's gonna get worse before it gets better... if it gets better at all. Hard to believe they've done this just so they can try to revamp things for a new release that has more bugs in it than a no tell motel in newjersey. [View Quote] Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?Aug 3, 2006, 1:16am
Sorry not to reply earlier, but Insanity, Queen Rett and several others have
been banned.. along with the folks already mentioned in this thread. Sorry I couldn't answer earlier.. I'm currently juggling my fathers ailing health as he was diagnosed terminal yesterday. I'll try to answer more completely later... just can't deal with things just now. weird emailsAug 1, 2006, 10:59pm
