Ran into this on a Sunday browse:

That first pic really communicates its size!

Nice find, Mike.
I had that first pic (found it somewhere on Something Awful, I think), but the additional information and photos are much more illuminating.

Although I've never played Far Cry, I have seen a trailer for the sequel. All I can say, having seen that screenshot [which does look good], is if you thought Far Cry looked good, wait till you see Crysis (http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2509|GameTrailers.com).

WOW! - http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=9882&type=mov&pl=game

Realtime volumetric clouds, depth of field, motion blur, soft shadows, ambient maps.. Its getting very very good in gamerland isnt it!

I am assuming an SLI (Dual) 7800GT or faster?

Those are some great pictures Mike, 2.5 football fields in length!!! Man is that thing huge!!

Crysis is a DX10 game, so next generation card needed ;). Does have DX9 fallback but you loose some of the special effects.

The quality of rendering using 3d hardware is rapidly advancing. Looking at the many videos linked to this preview the forest are so real looking but interactive as well when someone brushes up against leaves they move away, shadows are real time etc.. The density is extraordinary and just to think this is all real time. I place my bets that software rendering will come second place (already has if you count games as 3d content) for 3d content. Maybe a hybrid approach will be used where Raytracing is used for reflections and refractions only.
