Overall I think its an awesome piece of work and I especially like the area above his left eye where one of his staples has is missing. Excellent.:) |

Hi Steve. I've been pretty buzy for the last while and haven't taken the time to comment although I've been watching from your first post:cool:
First I wanted to say it's great to see you back in the saddle (so to speak).
Secondly, I'm guessing someone told you to stop messing with the computer and go and make yourself some friends - and it looks like you're making a good one here!:D
Your mastery of the mesh shows through here once again along with your skills for outstanding and convincing detail. Like everyone else I'm looking forward to some textures.
Looking good amigo.

Got to be said, awesome work from the Mouse again, but then we expect nothing less. Gonna be great once his usual texturing superbness is implemented.
Also got to be said, and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this already, that isn't it slightly odd (and also slightly sad) that one of the works in the trueSpace forums that's getting the most praise and attention isn't being done in trueSpace. |

You have a good point Witch but did you assume this was being done by Madmouse when in fact it is being modeled by MadRat Incognito.
Nice to see your work again! (...by both the Witch and the Rat):D |

I take your point Kate, but as I always say, I do very little in Silo that can't be done directly in TS. I just prefer to use Silo for organic modeling. Most of my projects have a combination of Silo and TS for the modeling. UV mapping is done using Headus UV. Textures in Paint Shop. But all this would be a waste of time if I didnt have TS to compose and render my work in.

Since long time using Silo 2.0.6 I now tried the new version 2.1.1 and yeah it's amazing. I totally understand you Madmouse why you use it ^^
I do currently archviz stuff but even there the program is fantastic due to the great snapping features.
... oh and great WIP as always ;)
Is the head modeled from the custom primitive base bust? |

Is the head modeled from the custom primitive base bust? No, if you look at the start of this thread there is an image of the base head that I started with.
Well the UV mapping is finished. There is a little stretching around the chin and nose. But on the whole I'm very pleased with the end result.
I've only bothered mapping the parts of the head that can be seen, so the curious blob of polygons to the right of the head is actually the back side of the model.
Now on to my favourite bit.... TEXTURES:banana:
Hopefully I'll have something to post later today.

I kinda like it with the grid...maybe Dr Frankenstein has a paint by numbers model kit...:D
Excellent work as usual Madmouse...going for the gallery this month?
I might try and make some competition for you, not that mine will be anywhere as good as your 'creation' but we all need to keep you on your toes...:p

Excellent work as usual Madmouse...going for the gallery this month? I doubt I'll make this month. You know how slow I work;)
not that mine will be anywhere as good as your 'creation' Such modesty from such a talent ;)
Truely amazing from a master you are MadMouse, very inspiring and great thanks for sharing all of this. Thanks Noko your very kind.:o
Well here's the start to the textures. I didn't get as much done today as I had originally hope as real life got in the way a bit.
But its a good start I think. I'm sure I've said this before, but I'm always amazed how texturing the eyes came bring a model to life.
The textures so far are only a starting point. No doubt they will change a little as I add the rest (especially the staples).
Hope you like what I've got so far.
Comments and crits are welcome.
P.S. Here's a question to ponder in the mean time. Eyebrows and eyelashes... yes or no?
I'm thinking of leaving off the eyebrows but I'm unsure about eyelashes. I kinda like the starey look it gives. What do you think????

Bushy eyebrows, maybe like a sewn on patch in an attempt of creator to make him look, ahmm more human but failed :). Just an idea. Now eyelashes, hmmm maybe some which are like half grown or something, as in this too didn't work out as the creator expected, maybe growning in the wrong direction as well. |

I like this idea, like the eyebrows being different colors or something and one of them not lined up correctly, that might work. As for the eyelashes, nothing to obvious, and possible also non uniform. |

You are a good friend Madmouse so I know you will take this the right way but have you considered the lighting and composition/background of the final shot. It might help you decide on colours and textures for the final image.
Your modelling skills are absolutely first class but in the past I have been disappointed by the final render (as you know...;)) It often seems that all the hard work needs to be lit very well to fully appreciate the modelling and texturing but often this can be 'too much' for the mood of the piece. I am referring more to the devil image as your troll was much better.
This is modelling beyond my skills and I know you will appreciate my honesty. Don't be afraid to give Frankie some dark moodly lighting even if some of the details are lost or suggested. Ideally, post a few renders that show off the final model but pull one well composed and beautifully lit illustration out of the bag for us. |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Thinking about it now I don't believe that the original Boris Karloff Frankie had any eyebrows at all. Probably down to the prosthetics he had to wear but I think its become an integral look of the character. So I've decided on no eyebrows (maybe stubble) but I think rough eyelashes are a must.

I'm always open to crits Paul. I take your point and yes I do plan moody/sinister lighting for the final render. Whether it will be up to your standard of light and composition remains to be seen. Because, for all your modesty you know I have great respect and envy for your skills in these departments.

I can't help thinking the neck electrodes would be copper.
Scorched, burnt, weld spattered (http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/notes/ptr91build/trunionweld22.jpg)copper.
The high voltage could account for the lack of eyebrows! |

Sounds cheesy but that texture really does bring it to life...;)
As usual Madmouse, your texture work is excellent and I really am looking forward to seeing the final render.
I like that suggestion about the electrodes. I can imagine a burning (glowing metal) showing through the cracks in the rust....
Really looking forward to seeing this....:D |

Yeah that sounds like it would look really cool, and judging by what I've seen so far it will look absolutely astounding when finished. |

Good Idea guys. Tis done thanks. Now I guess I better burn the skin around his neck! Tut tut... more texture work:rolleyes:. Thanks for the kinds words to.
Got a bit more of the skin done tonight. All still very rough and no real bump map but its getter there.
Before someone says it, I will be making the separate parts of the skin different tones.
But for now I'm just getting a basic skin layer. Lots of scabing, scaring and stitching to go to.
Hope you likey
