Yes... I know I've been a lazy little mouse recently, and haven't produced a render in quite a while.
In fact just short of a year!!! So I thought it was time I came out of lurk mode and got on with something :)
Here's my latest.... I'm going for my take on the 'Frankenstein Monster'. (Ooooh lots of gooey textures for me to play with!!!!)
Don't let the red material fool you, this was not modeled in ZBrush. I just find that this red wax material is easy on the eye when modeling.
It was in fact modeled in Silo, as followers of my work will know, I do most of my modeling in Silo, but that's not to say the same result can't be achieved in TS.
I just prefer to model in Silo.
The images are as follows:-
Perspective and front views,
Side view and wire frame (for those poly pushers amongst you)
The base mesh that I started modeling from
and finally a test pose with a more dramatic expression.
Hope you like what I've got so far.
Comments and crits are always welcome.

It is about time you came back!
I like everything except the cap nuts. For some reason they look too ordinary.
Nice start, but your real fun starts later doesn't it?... |

Stunning work MadMouse, looks like you have raised the bar yet again. That said, I'm afraid I must agree with Stenie and say I'm not to fond of the bolts; too modern looking for the character IMO.
Welcome back by the way and I'm sure everbody here is hoping its not just a fleeting visit. |

Usual Madmouse rubbish....
Nice bolts though...;)
EDIT: Ah, my sarcasm is wasted. Stunning as usual Madmouse but I also agree about the bolts. I also never understood the need for the bolts unless there is a dirty great join somewhere in the neck to bolt the head to the torso. Maybe some stitching as well. Did you see Rick Baker's attempt? |

Amazing model!!:D You can even start to make out what looks like muscle structure! Very nice details, good renders, not even to upset with the bolts, but the rounded ends are a little strange.;) |

Nothing much to add except WOW!... but I don't think the acorn nuts on the bolts are working for me either.
I keep thinking 'bicycle wheel'... a bit too clean and straight.
Maybe something a little rougher, or even mis-matched?
Protruding, oozing sockets where they're screwed in might be a nice touch. |

Gee that looks awesome! Now I am wondering if you have him rigged and with morph targets since he has different expressions on some of the renders. |

All these comments about the bolts are driving me nuts!:D (Baa Dum Tish)
Thanks for the warm welcome back guys and for the kind comments.
Nice start, but your real fun starts later doesn't it?...
Ahh you know me so well Bob;)
Did you see Rick Baker's attempt?
I have now Paul, thanks for the link mate. Good reference material.
can't wait to see the gooey textures!
Oooooooooh me to ;)

Nope, the posing was done in Silo using the soft selection tools. Crude, but it got the job done quickly.
Fancy giving me a hand with my model?
If I can. Thats what we gold ambassadors are here for. How can I help? (IM me)
Now onto those pesky bolts. On closer inspection I agree with the comments. The question is what to have instead? SpaceKdet suggested that they should be older looking and when they're textured they will. But I feel you cant have Frankie without bolts so what type do you think????
Thanks again

I don't think they are bolts as much as electrodes. Actually the originals looked more like these...

Awesome work as usual
The Bolts are, I believe, as Steine says the electrodes/cable connectors that directed the Lightning into his body, which reanimated him. |

yes, the one in the rick baker gallery didn't show anything but a smooth round end - no screws or anything... just a smooth shaft that bulges as it enters the neck. |

I think the choice of correct bolts\electrodes will ultimately boil down to what you look you are aiming to achieve. i.e. a recreation, a modern interpretation a re-imaging etc. etc. Of the 2 bolts in your last post, I personally prefer the square ones as the hexagonal bolt suggests a more industrialised society and therefore out of sync with the theme.

Indeed.. I still want my 'Frankie' to be of the original period just my version of the character.
OK.... Here's some electrodes for your approval.
One very basic one and one based on Steinie's image
So its decision time:-
1)...Dome head bolts.
2)...Standard bolts.
3)...Square head bolts.
4)...Simple electrode.
5)...Steinies electrode.
Places your bets please :D
(I'm leaning towards the square head ones myself ;))

Hey, you didn't give me a "Manly Electrode" that is kind of wimpy...
but I do like the square bolt after seeing them side by side. Just don't put the Monster in plaid pants or should that be a poll?...:D |

Due to the huge response on what bolts/electrodes to go with
(Thanks Bob, I can always rely on you:))
I've decided to do with a combination of the square headed bolt but ditch
the thread and call it an electrode.
I've settled on this as the final pose for Frankie. I didn't want to over exaggerate the pose and I was going for 'lamenting/anguish'
Rendered in TS using lightworks engine.
Comments are welcome.

ha ha. now you mention it....
I think it looks great but perhaps a touch clean. i guess the textures will rough it up a bit. I always remembered frankie having bolts but perhaps he didn't. Definitely the right choice IMHO. |

Well its been a little while since the last update, but I've been busy behind the scenes.
I think I'm about done with the modeling. If your interested how it was done here's a quick break down:-
The scars were added using displacement painting. This requires a very dense mesh but to subdivide the entire head to this level would of made for a very heavy mesh. Fortunately the older version of Silo (1.42) has the ability to 'Partial subdivide' so I decided where I wanted the scars and only subdivided these faces. Then I displacement painted the scars. Finally I re-topologised the mesh by hand, which shaved off some 49000 polys!!.
Here is a wireframe, a TS render without staples and one with.
Not so clean now eh brothex? ;):D
This is just the start of the scaring. More will be added when I get to texturing, held together with stitching instead of staples.
Hope you like what I've got so far. Now I'm off to start what I think will be an interesting UV mapping experience.
