6.9K - It was expensive, but I will probably give it to my son-in-law who is doing computer forensics.
Edit: I recall that the original price was 7.9K something. I bought this through an auction house which I understand the item came from an estate. I put my bid in and it was the only one, so I got the item. It was still shrink-wrap and not registered. |

And nothing if you can live with a tiny watermark in le lower right corner and somewhat limited rendering output size. Great piece of software, I will stick with that one. |

PMG(Messiah) developer are now working on exporting action to a game engine format. They haven't said when, and I think its because they dont want to disappoint anyone if they don't make the deadline. But that at least is in the future gaol at present. I ask Wegg over at his site and he thought TS and Messiah make a good fit. TS is very good at modeling and texturing, and export to a number of format. Messiah new renderer is very quick and precise. Many other program take a huge hit on sub space scattering. Not only can you render lifelike skin, but do it fast, and if you have dual core machine, it will use both core for the basic, and multiple above 2 for the pro version.
While setting up your animation realtime display, the previews are without hiccup, so you can see what your doing while in animation mode. Wegg is making a tutorial on how to use the new point animation to set up smart skin on the model.
I have love TS modeling capability, but thought the animation was way behind. This time and era, Messiah is at its best in animation and renderer, which fits perfectly with TS modeling capability. Any question you may have on TS and Messiah cross utilization could be directed to http://setuptab.com
Wish you well, whatever choice you make, and good luck! |

Its is a sad day to learn of what is happening and know for so many years Caligari has been there for us all. From the very first time I used TS 2 to the current time I never could of seen this happening. I always figured that Pixar or DreamWorks would be using TS. Well good ole MicroCrap has yet put the kabosh on anther outstanding piece of software. As they say only the good die young.
If interested you might want to check out www.n-sided.com as they have Quidam for character animation and have Argile for doing UV mapping and morphing and sculpting. I used Argile and had tried MudBox and Zbrush and Argile in my opinion is way past them and it has a very easy to understand interface. Looks alot like the same interface as Poser. Lightwave has always been my standby software that I used when needed, I guess now it will become my primary software.
It is truly a shame to have this happen with so much support behind it.
Anyone think of getting some of the old source code for TS 4 thru 6 and maybe revamping it. |

Anytime MicroCrap gets involved with another businesses software it becomes dead. Thats how they stay ahead of the market and are the big dogs. We all knew this would happen and no matter how sweet the deal was to Caligari they should of said no and looked for other backers. Who knows maybe if they had mentioned this to everyone on the forum we could of all pulled our resources and it then would of been a group effort.
Sorry Roman but you got a raw deal and they just sold you down the river without a boat. |

Roman worked hard for many years on tS. Offered an opportunity to expand and get a good pay cheque, he would have been mad to turn it down. He deserved to get recompense for his efforts. He could not have known what MS would do and I am pretty sure he would never have 'sold out' if MS had said they intended to dump trueSpace a few months down the line.
He never sold out, I believe he had good intentions. And as for a raw deal...we don't really know what it was...perhaps he got a good deal...
We didn't...:( |

buy a soft to close it a few month after. Curious. I think only the technology in TS have an interest for MS. maybe for an other project for the next year.

I have no doubt that Roman, Bibianna and their family sacrificed a great deal creating TS and running the business. They certainly deserve the reward and the break from that kind of stress.
I honestly believe that we are all affected by a series of unfortunate events.... hmmm... great idea for a book maybe.... Splinters! would you help illustrate.... maybe something about pigs.....
uh oh .... too much coffee again... |

As all might guess, this was not the original plans from either side. Back when Caligari was acquired, almost a year and a half ago the economy was good. Then during the course of that year, especially toward the end of last year, things began to look bleak. And then it turned into something long term and hard hitting.
So, things have had to be re-evaluated. Microsoft naturally had other ideas in mind for tS rather than this current situation, but no-one foresaw the coming financial crisis or how long term it would be. Those original plans, as a result, have had to change.
It is unfortunate for all of us that the downturn happened when it did - perhaps if it had happened just a year later, the story could have been very different. But the downturn has made, even forced, many companies rethink their plans.
HTH!
