The Commonwealth will currently be closed this week and next week due to we
are moving our hard-drive to a new Pentium 3 with 1GMZ and 20 gig. The hard
drive there fore has to be moved. When we get back online again we will be
offering a heck of alot more in our systems.

The Commonwealth won`t be answering any e-mails or telegrams because of
this.

Sorry :(

[View Quote] That's 1 GHz; I'm assuming you meant 20 gigabytes of hard disk space and not RAM (I would hope not :O )

It takes a week to move a hard drive? :) I can do that physically in 2 minutes, data transfer in an hour or so.

Heh actually best way is to mirror to the new HD first...I do that stuff in a matter of a few minutes, if I don't
my customers get crazy. :)

Ahh, the "professionals". I've caused my share of staged problems and have gotten back some of the most HILLARIOUS diagnoses. My
overheating CPU (wiped off thermal paste) was because of a damaged power suppply.

lol. I laugh at all tech support. 90% of the time I know more than the
person on the other side of the phone. Tech support is only good for
ordering replacement parts. And to hire a professional tech to do anything
to your comp is also a waste. They over charge and almost all of the times
they are late.

Really. Just for grins when I went to swap my K6-2 550 with a K6-2 300 a few days ago (300 runs MAD cooler than 550, by about FIFTY
degrees) I called up Best Buy to see how much they'd charge to do it and how long it'd take. They said it'd take TWO WEEKS and at
that point I just hung up and went and did the job in five minutes (would've taken less had I been using a case that didn't require
complete disassembly just to pull the motherboard tray)

Actually I had one of those You Made My Day things recently, called ATI tech
support and the guy had me clickin and typin as FAST as I could, took him 2
minutes to find out that I couldnt get tv capture in W2K because I needed an
additional component for DX8. Now if I had JUST tried to upgrade to W2K
during the week instead of having to wait for Monday to CALL this guy I woulda
saved a lotta damned time. However, I did learn some stuff. Like, don't do
THAT again, or THAT, or THAT, or even THAT... :)

Tech support is useful for the 99% of people who don't know the first thing
about how to operate a computer. I'm not talking about those phone service
support people, but rather the ones who take your computer and actually fix
it. ;) I've heard a lot of people say that tech support in the cities
overcharge, say charging up to $150 an hour? I'm not sure on the figures...
But where I work in a small town, it's $40 for an hour and $20 for a half
hour, and we're barely raking in any profit.

:)

have a monitor in here."

#8. "I have this problem too at home. You're not supposed to put old records
into CD drives, just cds."

#7. "Those donut sprinkles shouldn't be there. I cleaned up the insides of
your computer, it should be working fine..." *walks away wo/ fixing anything
and w/ a sprinkled donut in hand*

#6. "It seems you have a virus. I suggest you take some Tylenol."
"What about my computer?"
"what about it?"
"It has a virus too."
"Well, it must've caught it from you."
*sigh*

#5. "You say your internet doesn't work? Contact your ISP."
"BUT YOU ARE MY ISP!!"
"Really? I'm just tech support."
