The new world server seems to duplicate sessions quite often so things
like this http://oct31.de/tmp/confused.png occur frequently. Two avatars
with the same name, no trick. Unfortunalety only one of them can be
moved and the other one disappears after a while.

I cannot get the IP from the ghost avatar, it has a name above but there
seems to be no session - the message was "No such citizen" if I recall
right.

Hi Amanas :)

What you are talking about is what I have always heard called as a AW ghost.
It happens when some ones connection burps or disconnects for a few
seconds. Or if you disconnect from AW and come back before the old
connection is fully disconnected from AW. Have you ever disconnected from AW
and tried to reconnect and it said your account was already being used? Well
that is your AW ghost still trying to disconnect from AW, in some cases you
actually reconnect before it disconnects and that's when you see your ghost.
It has been happening to a lot of people ever since I first came to AW, more
so in 2.2. I haven't seen it happen since 3.0 came out. Anyway like some one
said it is a old problem which for some reason you are still having. Nothing
to be worried about, the ghost usually disappears after a few seconds. I
have never seen one stay for more then 2 minutes.

The phantom avatars is an old problem. When dealing with making bots, I
found that the world server (*not* the universe server in this case, wich is
responsible for session numbers), messes up. This can be seen in bot
interfaces and in AW browsers. Ghosts are common in bot interfaces. When a
disconnect happens, but the world server itself did not detect it, the
session number of the ghost remains valid. When a reconnect happens,
usually the ghosts remain a few seconds, then the world server removes them
and sends a message to the bots and bvrowsers to remove them too. It is
sometimes quite idiotic: my bot Delph gets a wfs, when he reconnects, he
greets Delph who is still there (but with a lower session number) :)
Usually, the old spook disappears after a few seconds. In some cases, it
remains in browsers and bots alike forever, the only way to get rid of it is
by moving to a different place and coming back.

I had a tourist av in my world for three days straight once.. never moved.. just stood there.. how odd.. kept my world user rate up
for a while though hehe.. it was weird cuz it was the same name as a tourist friend of mine used to posses.. only in quotes.. i
dunno if a person was there or not.. but it struck me as odd..

Seems to happen much more with the new servers, both for AW2.2 and AW3.1
browsers. There is a universe (or is it the world server?) where it even
happens everyday, more than once.
And the tourists who stay several hours (or even days) like jbell
describes it encounters quite often in the last weeks.
