Was just looking around pcmag on the net and found this

seem AW missed the boat in publicity again or where not considered in the
article..

The article makes interesting reading in that some of the places reviwed
have been around before aw and still pulling costomers in..

Its a shame AW wasn't mentioned (or even Worlds.com or Adobe Atmosphere for
that matter) yet a 2-D environment was. From what I saw though, people
should be really thankful for the AW pricing we have now. While not prefect,
its better than most. Second Life is charging $14.00 per month for
goodness-sakes.
At anyrate, I had been using There for a while before I had to stop due to
RL complications, but didn't really get hooked. The people there were dry
and immature.
Second Life just looked to uptight, and TheSims never really appealed to me.
Although, that MickeyMouse Online joint was looking quite enticing.

Yes must admit the Cartoon one also raised a visit to the site, so true SL
tends to be expensive for the treats.

What I found interesting is that Microsoft research dropped VR worlds so did
Fujitsu (the creators of the 2d chat one) when I contacted them last year
there only response was the team they developed the software was disbanded
and the project was of no interest anymore to them. So they where unable to
provide a price.

So I saw. Every browser has its following I would reckon.

MS dropped out of the 3-D interactive webscape area because the internet is
moving in a new direction. Sure, there will always be a large crowd that
wants 3-D chat, but not enough so that MS is willing to invest in. Just not
profitable enough when more people are willing to settle for 2-D chats.

Its like Wal-Mart does, they just use K-Marts marketing research to see
where they should set-up a new store (that's why you always see a Wal-Mart
right next to a K-Mart). MS has done that. They see that AW, SL, There
aren't what's hot and dumped it. I'm curious to see what they would have
come up with though.

My guess is that MS dropped the whole idea cus of Xbox going live. True you
can't currently customize an av on there as of yet or build yet, but I
wouldn't be a bit surprised if that is made available sometime within the
next year. But you can socialize with others on there thru the voice chat
(no typing whatsoever) and can participate in fun games with each other.
