Windows Media player headache // General DiscussionmrbruceMay 30, 2003, 10:15pm
Ok I know I not going to get a helpful answer here cant find one on Media
Players website anywhere and cant find a solution because it involves to many possabilities. My problem is using Windows Media Player 9 series to play CDs, every time i insert a Music CD-ROM I get an error this is the error (WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR WHEN READING THE CD-ROM DRIVE IN DIGITAL MODE. CLICK OK TO SWITCH TO ANALOG MODE, CLICK CANCEL TO RETRY PLAYING IN DIGITAL MODE.) NO matter what I do the player shuts down it never switches to analog mode and i get the following error out of the MORE INFO tab 0xC00D11F8: Cannot play the CD using digital playback Windows Media Player could not play the CD using digital playback. The Player has automatically switched the CD-ROM drive to analog playback. To switch back to digital CD playback, use the Devices tab. To switch to digital CD playback On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab. Double-click the CD-ROM drive, and then in the Playback area, click Digital. Error ID = 0xC00D11F8, Condition ID = 0x00000000 OK I try that and I find the enable digital playback is greyed out and not checkable, but yet my Memorex 48X is digital capable and even has a digital cable connected to the mother board. My Bios is new and was recently upgraded, aside from that in the past I was able to play CDROMs into either windows media player or Real Player, Now I can't MS Windows ME (4.90. build 3000) DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881) Video card: ATI Radeon 7000 PCI Video Memory 64 Mb DDR Driver: ATIDRAG.DRV Version: 4.13.01.9009 Sound card: Creative SBLive! Driver: Emu10k1.VxD 4.06.00.0711 Total system memory:SDram PC-100 256 Mb BIOS date: 2002 Any suggeations would be appreciated as im stumped! mrbruceMay 30, 2003, 10:58pm

easy solution... dont use windows media player 9... its absolutly horid
sound quality wise, although some of the features (slow down / speed up) are brill. Go for 8 - Mark [View Quote] mrbruceMay 30, 2003, 11:54pm
Is there a problem with the software? If so I will uninstall it and go for
an older version, I know windows media player 9 is for windows XP, but it was offered to me as an Windows ME update. [View Quote] strike rapierMay 31, 2003, 12:47am
There are 2 versions of version 9.. 9x version and XP version.
Both are crap, low sound quallity, taking far too much graphics and CPU time, spyware on DVDs and such. It is easily the worst media player they have come out with to date. - Mark [View Quote] mrbruceMay 31, 2003, 1:14am

Correct, its a forced perminant upgrade... although you can severly damage
it enough with a hex editor to put most of it out of commision. - Mark [View Quote] captain mad mikeJun 5, 2003, 5:47pm
