This may be a bug with 3.4 or im an idiot.. .lol... in my world the terrain
is really dark except around lights (usual terrain0 texture)... there seems
to be no reason for this... help anyone?

You have to increase or lower the numbers for the. Terrain surface ambient
and Terrain surface diffuse until you get the right lighting effect for
terrain you want to have.
These are found under the Ground options.
