If you upgraded all the PC's to xp, it will automaticly just do the stuff
that you need to get networked all together (if your thinking of that).

The laptop to DSL.. well first off you need a pcmica card (flat about 1 mm
inch wide) and a adapter to connect the DSL wire into that adapter. From
there on, you might get stuff done in no problem at all.

What's the configuration of your network? Are you using Internet connection
sharing, or does your hub include a router too?

I have the same problem with windows 98 and Windows XP machines. I've spent
hours trying to solve the problem of the 98 machine printing to the XP
machine. The problem, apparently, is that Microsoft changed the security
protocol in XP, so you need to change the default username on the 98 machine
to match that on the XP machine. The problem is that I haven't had the time
to research how to do that (printing on the 98 machine isn't high on my list
of things to do), but I'm sure there's a way. Maybe someone has some
pointers?

Security in XP is different.

I'm gathering you have a working win98 network and are NOT (?) changing that
over to XP ... just joining the XP laptop to the network? I'd need to know a
little info on your network ...

o are all the machines on seperate fixed IPs as a LAN or as a subnet of
whatever from the ISP?
o are you using a local gateway machine?
o are you using DHCP?
o can the XP machine ping the 98 machines on the LAN?
o reverse of above?
o have you verified the network card on the XP is _functional_ on another
network?

really need more info on the network before I can start suggesting where to
look. If you wish to email the network settings of the XP machine and the
primary (if there is one) 98 machine I can be pretty specific on what to
try.

I'm running a Windows XP machine on a network with about 10 other computers,
2 of which have printers(Windows 98 machines). I can print to both printers
no problem. Infact, I never even had to worry about it, it worked just like
win98 would have worked. Just added the printer like usual and it worked
just like that, no problems.

Thank you everyone for all your great support:)
My problem was deciphering Win 98 language to XP:)
Why do they do that?:)

I think WinXP stuff is faster.
By saying that you problem _was_ then does that mean you fixed it? :-P
