I wish I were in beta 4.1 LOL nooooooo that's not what this post is spose to
be about ... ummmm ...

I wish you could STOP world d/l after a crash/refresh. The reason for a Stop
button would be the same as any web browser, to stop d/l if you wish. For
instance, I'm currently and painfully on dialup :o/ When the browser crashes
and I re-login to aw I'm forced to red/l all over again, now that might be
necessary if I couldn't see anything at all but I can see everything so why
the forced refresh d/l? I'd like to be able to stop that if I want to!

Being on dail up for 6 years, I made a tool to help with that problem.
It's a simple .bat program which will back up the AW cache and let you
restore it in case you crash.
It only works for Alphaworld though...

why only aw? and can I d/l it somewhere? I currently use .bat files to dump
my avatar.dat files when ever I make changes in my worlds, it's alot easier
than trying to find them each time ... sure wish they'd do an auto dump an
that file :o/

How to change the backup program for your world:

For this example, i will use megapath, which is
host.activeworlds.com-megapath , change it to the right OP address
(Replacing / with - and leaving out http and www prefixes)

In Backup.bat (Using notepad)

Under ":BACKUP"
Find:
xcopy cache\art\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\model.idx
backup\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\ /y

xcopy cache\art\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\download.idx
backup\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\ /y

Replace with:
xcopy cache\art\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\model.idx
backup\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\ /y

xcopy cache\art\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\download.idx
backup\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\ /y

Under ":RESTORE"

Find:
xcopy backup\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\model.idx
cache\art\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\ /y

xcopy backup\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\download.idx
cache\art\objects.activeworlds.com-aw\ /y

Replace with:
xcopy backup\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\model.idx
cache\art\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\ /y

xcopy backup\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\download.idx
cache\art\host.activeworlds.com-megapath\ /y

That, when using your address instead of host.activeworlds.com-megapath
, will backup cache for your world.

Thanks Gnu. Jusst a note...backing up the .idx files may cause texture or
object corruption. It happens to me every once in a great while. However the
property portion of the backup never has caused any problems.
