Proxy Bots? (Bots)
Proxy Bots? // Bots

Are there any sorts of bots like proxies that work through YOUR Avatar?
....As though you would 'become' the bot and have manual control over
bot-like capabilities?

Not officially and AW Inc would not like it if you did it.

theres a few things that arent technically bots...
but like theres many many building programs that let you cover X ammount
of area and it uses your avatar to do so...

You should be able to make a bot that uses your avatar type and constantly
matches itself to your position and orientation. I'm not sure what value
that would have. Interesting idea though.

You see, I got the idea from Furcadia, actually.
In furcadia, bots ARE proxies. They log into the 'universe' using the
client. They can be Without a client, but by default they're basically just
.... a program that handles the client directly and sort of functions as a
go-between with the client and server.
I got a telegram from somebody saying that this was ILLEGAL or something
>_>; I actually... did NOT know that. But... this doesn't CHANGE the
activeworlds program, really... Heck, I don't even know if Furcadia's
definition of a bot even Matches Activeworlds' definition... I guess what I
was asking for was more of a utility that controls my avatar for me
automatically in ways that I can define through a console on the side.
So that's bad, huh?

Use a macro editor, such as this: http://www.pitrinec.com/clickymouse.htm

You'd be better off with macros not proxys but the AW EULA does actually
state you are not allowed to attempt to find out under lying algorhythms in
the program which would be needed to make a proxy.

So it would sit between the client and the modem and inject packets as
if they were coming from the client? Is that not allowed here?

Ah. Yes, that can be convenient. I used to use the old MS recorder.exe
program to do that through the client's user interface at another website.
(I get the impression that MicroSoft no longer appreciates the need for
that capability. That's sad.) Come to think of it, that other website
objected to the technique but never explained why. Maybe they just
feared what they didn't understand.
Does anyone know of things that a human operator can do through
the GUI that a bot can't do? I guess a bot couldn't display the human's
name over its head. And the bot can't display its view in the operator's
browser. Anything else?

Well, the reason I'd like this would be... so I could sort of program my Own
avatar to act in certain ways that a bot can, responding to commands without
me having to sit here and type them out myself. Or for instance if a friend
tells me to follow them, I'd be able to tell my ... ME-BOT... to follow them
while I'd be free to type, talk to them, or look around when it's not
explicitly controlling my heading and velocity. The bot would be sort of...
run from a GUI off on the side (an external program), but it would
manipulate my AV and see the 'world' through my AV.
Who knows o_o maybe somebody might think it's a great idea and pick it up!
I'd love that ^_^

A follow another avatar command would be a nifty feature. Would make giving
tours much easier. ;)
