4 1 Release update (Community)
4 1 Release update // Communityrossyfox oApr 6, 2006, 12:18pm
First of all, Stagecoach Island is a 4.1 galaxy server, while Active
Worlds is currently a 3.6 uniserver. The issue is one of backwards compatibility. 4.1 worlds are quite different to 3.6 worlds, and getting the new 4.1 uniserver and client to work smoothly with 3.6 worlds is quite a task. Also, the Wells Fargo project didn't have to tackle the task of converting a 3.6 world to a 4.1 world. Also, the Wells Fargo project does not include some 4.1 features, notably: - Voice chat - Personal avatars (the Wells Fargo avatar customisation is not a 4.1 feature, it is a custom feature for their galaxy) So no, it's not that 4.1 only works if you're a bank. It's that 4.1 only works if you're a private client looking for a modified version to cut out some unfinished features and if you're starting a 4.1 world from scratch. Si doesnt have private worlds either so there's world server upgrade too
that also has to be done. We don't know when it will be done. They don.t even tell the beta testers when it will be done. I dont think THEY even know when it will be done. They have no idea what new bugs pop up in testing or how long they will take to fix. Would u rather it be released befor its safe or would u rather crash everytime u come here or find that certain things don't work? I am sure awi is just as anxious to get it done as we are. It is best to not have expectations for a release time and not be dissapointed if a new bug comes up that postpones it and everyone gets all up in the air about it. I rather have a good working program than one full of bugs. Would't you all ? [View Quote] jalen bladeApr 6, 2006, 8:53pm
I think your comments are all good and show understanding about the size and
scope of the new update, but they've estimated twice before when it might be ready. How about giving us a new estimate and some information? Is it just the conversion process now that needs work? Is it ready to go except for one bug they haven't figured out yet? Are they just figuring out the best way to make the process go smoothly or are we looking at another 3 months due to multiple problems? An email to world owners at least would be nice. I'm just saying, throw us a bone here...some of us have other things riding on and or waiting on the new release. [View Quote] cienaApr 6, 2006, 9:59pm
As I already stated I dont think they even know a release date. There is a
couple bugs that I know of and I'm sure there's some I dont know of. Just chill. It will be out when its done. All the begging for bones isn't gonna get it here any faster nor will it make them let out what they dont want to let out. [View Quote] goshentaApr 9, 2006, 4:12pm
Not to argue with ya Jason, but I've seen that once every major version
update they change the splash. Its very likely that the splash for 4.1 will be different, but you're probably right. What're the chances? lol >I mean the splash isn't that great.. don't get peoples hopes up thinking >that its been revolutionized (like it should be). > > Basically every splash since 3.0 has been the same thing.. > > There is always time for change though, as anything can change whilst > still in beta. |
