When I got home from work today Nortons had put this warning on my desktop.
This is a voice program a lot of people in AW use called Skype. Has anyone else had this responce from their Nortons? Does anyone know more about this.. and should I remove this Skype from my computer? http://garnet.0catch.com/web/virus.jpg andrasNov 2, 2005, 9:40pm

I did get it from skype.com. I was not even home today when this came. I
also forwarn everyone not to forward me emails.. as I will only delete them. [View Quote] tart sugarNov 2, 2005, 10:52pm
Yep. I got a worm warning from Norton.
I, too, D/L'd Skype from their web site. I immediately uninstalled Skype. [View Quote] gnu32Nov 3, 2005, 12:00am

If only recently, someone must have uploaded an infected version of Skype to their servers; whether an insider or not is a different question. I am and have been using Skype for some time now, no warnings. Best Regards, Anduin (317281) -- Immigrated Monday, May 8th 2000 DreamCty World Coming Soon! [View Quote] As Gnu32 properly pointed out: "I continually get Worm notification from Norton Anti-Virus when I run Skype? To stop the Norton Worm warning for Skype from continually appearing please try the following: Open Norton Anti-Virus program -> Select “Options”-> Select “Internet Worm Protection” -> Select “Program Control” -> look for “Skype” in the list of programs -> click on Skype once -> click “Remove” ->Select “Yes” -> Select “OK” -> Close Norton. Next time you start Skype or update or reload the program, Norton will detect Skype as a worm invasion. Simply click “OK” and you will not get anymore notifications." Norton is famous about its false positive detection :( Nobody uploaded any malware to Skype's site - there is a "Social Engineering" based Trojan which spread through email carrying an infected Skype Installer. -- Andras "It's MY computer" (tm Steve Gibson) tart sugarNov 3, 2005, 10:21am
It was just a couple of months ago that I D/L'd Skype. I only used it once.
lol It's good to know that it was a "false positive" from Norton and not Skype. A lot of ppl really like Skype. Me, not so much. : ) [View Quote] > As Gnu32 properly pointed out: > > "I continually get Worm notification from Norton Anti-Virus when I run > Skype? > > To stop the Norton Worm warning for Skype from continually appearing > please try the following: > > Open Norton Anti-Virus program -> Select “Options”-> Select “Internet Worm > Protection” -> Select “Program Control” -> look for “Skype” in the list of > programs -> click on Skype once -> click “Remove” ->Select “Yes” -> Select > “OK” -> Close Norton. > > Next time you start Skype or update or reload the program, Norton will > detect Skype as a worm invasion. You better check the download site for an updated version then, in the last
few weeks Skype has been hit by multiple trojans / viruses using it. -- - Mark Randall http://zetech.swehli.com "Those people that think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do" Isaac Asimov [View Quote] tart sugarNov 3, 2005, 2:09pm
Ohhhhhhh. ok Thx
Well, I have unlimited free long distance on my phone, so Skype is a moot point for me. I can't deal with multiple users at once yapping at me, which is why There drove me NuTs. LOL I don't have any friends overseas to make Skype worth my trouble. OHH. I have a cousin in Sweden...... : ) [View Quote] sw chrisNov 4, 2005, 12:07am
Quick solution that will make your computer start up and run faster and save
you money. :) Uninstall Norton, cancel your subscription, and get a free virus scanner like AVG Free. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 Works better than Norton! Chris [View Quote] |
