Alphaworld
Enhanced

A visual enhancement mod for AW

Alphaworld Enhanced (AWE) is a mod that utilizes the the "local path" option
within the Active Worlds settings. What this basically does is override a
part of Alphaworld's object path with the mod. To see what is included
within this mod package, read the sections below.

:: Benefits of Alphaworld Enhanced

1.. A better travel experience through Alphaworld. See the world in a
whole new light.
2.. One-time install! AWE can survive the sometimes-frequent Active Worlds
program crashes.
3.. See original textures the way they were meant to be seen; in high
resolution.
4.. Additional content such as avatars and gestures.
5.. Potential to add textures and modify models & avatars.
=======

For more information about AWE, visit our website at awe.swcity.net

Or view our discussion thread about it, which has a few more comparative
screenshots - http://www.swcity.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=3533.0
See the link at the bottom of the post for an archive of user feedback for
the previous versions. So far, everyone has loved it :D

Brilliant, i can see updating AW to higher resolutions will take a long
time, but great job on this

Hmm , i wonder if this means cities can be built with their own
Enhancement pack to include curved road objects and some decor not found
in the normal OP which is a requirement to see the city properly, quite
good that

Objects can only be modified, not added.
I don't really expect anyone to do that though, lol.

Yes, they can - only people not having them on their local path won't
see them and builders who have enabled error posting will see a lot of
error messages, but basically, it would be possible. :-)

but AW has a registry, so can't add objects in AW :)
think that's what they were talking about.

Interesting issue. I'm not a complete expert at this and maybe it's been
explained already and I just didn't understand but...since the object file
is already inserted into the cache, wouldn't that allow it to be seen...at
least by the user who has it in their cache? Doesn't the registry simply
stop non-registered objects from being downloaded from the OP?

no, see, the registery stops the object from being placed in the world. you
still download the object, even if it's not in the registery, the only thing
is it gets deleted if it's not on the registry, or encroaching.

Actually, I thought about starting a forum topic on this, but might as well
work it out here. :)

I >think< that as long as the dimensions of said object were to remain the
same, then you COULD actually modify it and have it display.

So, if you wanted curved roads, (custom curved roads that is) you could take
one of the road models that you don't use, modify it to make it curved or
round (but remain the same size, mind you) and I think it would work.

I was going to play with this idea myself in a bit, once I remember how to
modify models. I was thinking of trying to modify an existing PW(x) and
PD(x) model to see if my theory works.

I'll post my findings here.

[View Quote] Isn't there a 90degree angle road? That would be perfect for curved ones.

yes you could. and actually, the dimensions don't need to be the exact same.
would still work, just not very easily next to other peoples land.
the point is, you can't have NEW objects added, you can only modify existing
ones, because of the registry.

Here's an example picture of what I was talking about.
Now, before anyone flames me for the horrible thing I've done to pw01.rwx, I
just did something noticeable to it
to show that my theory was correct!

Not sure about the dimensions thing yet though.. as SWE touches on below..
...will have to try that next.

If your having problems with the extra avatars not installing, try to
uninstall AWE and reinnstall it. That usually works. We're looking into
this problem, but have been unable to reproduce the problem so far.

PS - 36 downloads within 24 hours.

Yes, that is correct - when a world has a registry, it won't work,
but when it doesn't have one, it would work. :-)
