The first event, the only one I made it to, was the Godzilla event, and the
host was about four hours late. Once she got on, she failed to tell us it
was a "practice" event and that we were hiding for about 25 minutes for no
reason.
Then, in my fort, fort3, we had a problem with one of our campers who would
randomly delete things and also gave our theme away--when we asked the
people who ran awcamp to remove him, they said he would be fine, and then
the next day our entire fort was deleted. :)! Way to go!
Okay, July 25th, closing ceremonies. This is where they're supposed to give
out the awards and tell us all the winners and stuff. They gave out the
event winner awards, the spirit award, and the "fight against porn" award.
They didn't have the winners for the best fort, the best ride, or the best
scrapbook. It's now August 1st, and the winners are still not announced.
When asked, both WT o and ALexander o both said that the awards would be
given out July 31.
After overlooking on the website the prizes, I'm kind of disappointed.
Best Fort Build
P-20/5 for 3 months with hosting for everyone in the Fort
Winner: TBA
Best Fort Ride
New 3 month citizenship for everyone in the Fort (no cit extensions)
Winner: TBA
Spirit of AWCamp
Prize #1 - 3D Homepage or P-10/5 (with hosting) for a year
Winner: Ashley.
Prize #2 - New 2 month citizenship
Winner: Ashley.
Okay, why is the "spirit" award better than both the best fort award AND
best fort ride award, combined? And what's with all the prizes being new
citizenships? No one wants new citizenships; we want extensions! well, I,
and most people I know do. so yes. And if you're wondering why there's two
spirit awards, it's because the second one was originally for Jaguar Hahn
for his "fight against porn", but he gave it to Ashley. Yes. Fight Against
Porn award. I am dead serious.

This is pretty dumb. As a 15 year old's point of view, this is pretty much
like a volunteer job that can't be handled. It's just... bad. Poorly done.
If you only were there, I'm sure you'd be unhappy too. I was in a camp, yet
it was just bad. A bad egg was in it, and I never bothered doing anything in
it. Comments anyone on this year's poorly done AWCamp?

Also I believe scrap book's prize is well minimal compared to the amount of
work people do on them, I spent just as much time on our forts scrapbook as
I did on our fort, and I like having more bots, incase I ever need to have a
parade???But in truth I worked my butt off on it last year, and won and I
was happy to get a prize, plus to have all the fun from camp, but then this
year I spent ALLOT more time on it, and this prize seems less and less
appealing

I must say I found AWCamp to be quite an offensive expierience this year. In
particular due to judging descrimination. One judge, King Brian K, attempted
to disqualify my fort (fort1) by claiming I was over 30 years old, formerly
"bree2u", from Florida, and someone he knew in person. None of this was even
remotely true-In fact, it can even be verified by AWI, as Bree2u is the
caretaker of AWSome world (her new name is EvIIredhead). Anyone who knows me
knows I am not from florida, but Michigan. I have numerous photos where I
obviously, do not look 30. But I suppose despite all the evidence that I was
not "bree2u" they would rather remain ignorant. It was no surprise that our
fort won nothing whatsoever. When I emailed the camp administrators regarding
this matter, offering to provide proof of age as well as logs and the
sorts-my email was ignored, to no surprise. This happened last year as
well-Our fort got nothing whatsoever despite both times being very well done
compared to the forts with zbuffer and the like. The judging is absolutely
laughable. You shouldn't judge a fort based on the people in it, that's not
the purpose.
What also sickens me is the type of people they have in charge of AWCamp.
Most of the people in charge are GKs and in a few rare instances, goreans.
Most GKs don't know jack about changing world features, bots, or even
general AW knowledge. One of our fort's counselors, didn't even know what
the hell Zbuffering was. The other counselor was Seiya-that alone tells you
something. Why they would allow someone like Seiya or goreans around
children is absolutely beyond me. No offense to goreans but when you have
kids asking a counselor why they have a "slave name", I'd say that crosses
the line a bit.
It's also pretty sad when the campers have to explain to the counselors what
to do-ie setting up world features and terrain. Almost every event that
required a bot was messed up. If you don't know how to use the bots for the
activities, why try? All it does is waste peoples time. The paintball events
all went to hell. It's pointless even trying to attempt to participate in
the events when they aren't done correctly-It makes more sense to try to
build up your fort to win, instead of waiting around for an hour until the
person in charge of the event finally gets it together. Of course even if
you build up a nice fort, it is doomed to lose if the people in charge have
a "thing" against you, no matter how well done it is. Same goes for the
scrap book contests. But what can you expect when the judges are chosen
simply because they are friends of the people in charge?
The prizes that are offered are also absolutely useless to most people as
well. Why would anyone want a *new* 3 month citizenship when they already
have one? All that benefits are the tourists who get temporary citizenships
to participate in awcamp-it gives them a chance to win one. For the existing
citizens, it'd make more sense to offer citizenship extensions. I also find
it a bit strange that the winners were not announced publicly. Instead it
was up to the campers to figure out who won. I assume they were expecting
people to be psychic and know which day to check their website for the
updates, as this was never announced.
When telegrammed, "Lady Trishia o" never responded. When emailed, they never
responded. I'm wondering what the hell it takes to get it across to them.
I'm not upset that my fort lost. I'm upset as to why we lost and how a lot
of people were treated during AWCamp. All it is now is a waste of time and
the only real contest I see, is how well you can kiss their ass. I've been
more than polite on this issue in the past, and I would have thought if they
had any decency they would have at least replied to my efforts to contact
them, but I guess not.

This is yet another post on the AWCamp situation. I cannot believe the way
the event was run, it's utterly appalling. The judging, especially I am
disappointed with; it seems that the fort that won (fort3) didn't win
because it was the best fort but merely because the judges liked those
campers the best. There is no doubt that AlaskanShadow and I are the most
hated people by KBK and Trishia, she ejected me a number of times for
calling her "dyslexic lady", yes an immature name but she got really pissed
at me for it. She can barely work bots correctly, and her spelling/grammar
is awful. I'm not one to judge grammar/spelling etc since my own isn't
exactly perfect but in every sentence that she'd type there would be an
error of some kind. AWCamp seems to be more of a popularity contest more
than anything, it's a shame how something that's meant to be a fun event for
the youth of activeworlds has turned into such a waste of time. If the
judges and counsellors weren't complete morons then maybe it would have been
a lot more fun.
Our fort (fort1) had n00bs for builders, Xblacker for example got really
pissed and started a huge argument with AS and myself just because we had
decided, along with another fort member to redesign the fort. CHERi Luv had
to disable building to get him to calm down. He was even evil enough to
drive Cem (a good friend of mine) to request to change forts. I think that
n00bs shouldn't be allowed in AWCamp especially if, like Xblacker, they don'
t even know what masks are. The whole idea is to build a world, and if they
can't even do that it's totally pointless.
I am upset that our fort didn't even get a single prize. I have looked at
other scrap books, and they are all fairly n00bish and poorly put together.
AS' scrap book on the other hand was extremely professional-looking. Since
AS and I worked flat out for over week to get the fort done (since we were
the only ones making it) we deserve something. There is no doubt about it
our fort was the best; we are experienced, kick ass builders and our fort
definitely pwnd everyone else's. This is definitely a popularity contest and
it's disappointing to see that AWI let morons like trish and kbk be in
charge of such a major event, and how they allow them to be so obviously
biased towards their favourite campers about the judging.
People reading this may consider me as poor loser, well yes perhaps I am but
I am only annoyed that the fort3 won for the wrong reasons, and that the
judging is completely biased. Some of the counselors evern went out of their
way to help their forts and campers win, by partcipating in events designed
for campers and giving their prizes towards a member of their fort. To forts
whose counselors are fairly lax, this is so unfair.

Hey how come I don't get a fight-against-porn award after I cleared up
literally 10,000+ objects in AWTeen :O Is it simply because of my secret
collection of it on a CD???

You, are wrong pal.
I was in Fort 3, and it wasn't because we were ass-kissers. We had Squi0 who
was causing drama, though we may had some people who had time and actually
built on their time, and made something of our theme very good. Just because
of a loss doesn't mean it has to take you down. This is the internet, yet
the AWCamp admins sucked like crap this year.
"I am only annoyed that the fort3 won for the wrong reasons, and that the
judging is completely biased."
We didn't win for the wrong reasons. We actually built to our theme, yet we
had a small problem, but thanks to the cache trick and Strike Rapier for
rebuilding it after a massive delete.. ( I really do hate immature idiot
kids, not naming anyone...*cough*. )
But you have the right to say your own word, but i'm just saying what I
think is right.

I did my forts scrapbook BY MYSELF, no help from anyone, there are
wholethigns to be doen abotu scrapbooks, the information mus tbe psoted
correctly, plus it must have sentiment, the scrapbook is nto about what yoru
fort is, btu rather a book fo scraps, or memories... you should have allot
of pictures of what you did, and wehat you loved abotu it, and funyn things
that happened whiule in awcamp...

Well, fighting with each other about the outcome isn't going to change
anything, but everyone is obviously pissed at AWCamp having a
less-than-satisfactory turnout this year, whether it was the judging,
counselors, or n00bs. From what I have heard, AWCamp definitely needs a
major refit next year.

No I did not give it to Ashley, and Im SORRY IF I OFFENDED YOU BY WINNING.
Yes, we do need new admins next year, and the whole camp needs to be redone.
And for that "porn" award crap, all I did was tgram Trishia and say come to
our phort O_o

I know last years camp there was a list made of the people whom the Camp
Admins would like to be camp councilor. I think I still have that list
actually. On it was everyone from ENZO to ex-teachers who we thought would
make a good addtion to the team. While some of that selection process was
made because we personally knew these people to be cool, it was also made on
the basis that these people could get the job done, make sure the campers
have fun, and lay down the law if needed ;)
And also, in the past I have know Trisha and WT to be very compatent and
awesome admins and councilors of AWCamp.
Granted, I was not there this year, and I, yes, maybe yall did have a
(explicit) experience, but I hope that doesn't prevent yall from coming back
next year, or telling your friends. Who knows, maybe things will turn out
for the better ;D
I know last year and the year before AWCamp was an awesome experience.

last year EVERYONE got a prize too winners and losers... :( so now everyone
who didn't win best fort or whatever feels like a loser! and there are NO
losers in awcamp...

Sorry to say, but I think they did a friggin horrible job, no matter what
their rep is, they showed their love for the "kids" in AW that AW sucks, and
there is no life on the other side of the river.
Aug 8, 2004, 1:09am
I can understand why they didn't give out prizes to everyone. While, yes,
everyone is a winner, I think the idea behind not giving prizes to everyone
is that would take away the incentive to try on the activities, thus taking
about part of the fun. =)

I'm not desputing the fact that the camp was a bomb this year, I wasen't
there, so I can't make that call, I'm just saying that from what I know of
Trisha and WT that they are good people. I'm sorry that so many of yall had
such a bad experience with them though.
And I'm not quite sure what you mean by "there is no life on the other side
of the river." If your saying its better being a teen in AW than a grown-up,
then I don't think anyone can argue you there. ;)

I have yet to receive my prizes yet too. And how many weeks has it been? 2?
This is a fine example of how lazy AWI really is. Kellie should have handled
all prizes by now...

I'm not sure, and I could be totally off here, but in the past when I have
won a prize in CitBingo or at AW Festival I have to personally e-mail Kellie
with the information and what not to claim my prize. I don't know if thats
what happens at AWCamp, never handled the prizes, but that might be what you
need to do =)

It was their first year without direct support... Give them a chance at
least, I happen to know that did / are in the process of trying to sort
things, and were doing all the way through camp when things were brought to
their attention.

They didn't have direct support from AWI? That makes everything that much
harder.
LF
Aug 8, 2004, 8:27pm
As far as I know this year full control and descision was given up to Trisha
and WT, hence I expect that none of AWI were in the loop throughout the main
process and information was only just starting to be passed to them at the
end, although I am not in any place to confirm this.

I know in past camps MM was pretty visible through out the whole process and
set up and also through out camp. We would CC everything to her to make sure
everything was on the go, although she was there pretty much to guide, and
not to run. I know if MM was not there Daphne was around always to lend a
hand.

For the record, those of you who have prizes that are a pick this or that
type, we are still waiting on e-mails from. I do have the e-mail ready to
send to AWI with the prize lists but need to get those others listed in
there as well...I know a few have sent in their choices but we still need
the rest (including Counselors) before the prize e-mail is sent to AWI for
processing. As far as prizes that are handed out and to whom...those were
provided graciously by AWI. We did try to get other citizens involved asking
for donations for camp prizes but never got any. I know that whenever I
receive a 3D homepage as a prize in AWBingo, I have AWI set it aside to be
used for AWCamp. Primary wait right now is on those who we have no idea
which prize they wish (mainly choice of "my.activeworlds.com e-mail addy or
raise bot limit by 1" prize winners). Once we recieve those in, the e-mail
is set for sending :)
