Directive 7"2' is Invoked // Communitystrike rapierJul 14, 2004, 3:12pm
Under Directive 7, paragraph 2 line 1 of the Secret Active Worlds Community
Guidelines reading as below: In any event that a problem develops on such a scale that normal tacticial actions cannot solve it, command and authority of the AWA will be transfered to the highest ranking General who shall gain situational control for the length of time required to use the given power in a way that will rectify the said problem. ------------------- As the only 5 star'd Generals still in Active Worlds are Nel, MTD and Myself I now invoke directive 7, paragraph 2 giving me full control over the AWA, AWCA and SCESO. All former troops are now recalled to activy duty for the length of time required to solve the following problem. ------------------- The problem is defined as such: Active Worlds is degrading faster than plutonium in a detonating nuclear warhead. Worse more, it is openly turning into some God Foresaken AOL chatroom with 12 year old kids coming into __EVERY__ GZ looking for 'hot boys / girls / whatevers' flooding any proper conversations straight out into the dev > nul. Lets evaluate shall we: We have several people clearly suffering from mental problems ranging from between learning difficulties, though insanity, all the way up to some users being clearly psycotic. People with learning difficulties I have no problem with unless they are put in situations where they could potentially harm other users, neither is it fair on them to have to try and deal with it... As for the others well guess, I've lost track of how many times they have been banned from various things (newsgroups, worlds, entire universes)... yet theyre still here! Hell I know I've raised hell in the past (being goody all the time just doesnt do it for me) but some of these users are making AW literally DANGEROUS... and we all know how E N Z O likes his 'ActiveWorlds - Its just safer' logos. We have gatekeepers ejecting for including links to the Active Worlds conduct guidelines in AWGate, thinking I have 20+ laptops (artistic license) and thinking your computer automatically locks onto, downloads and executes any hyperlink you see ANYWHERE, including you AW chat window! Hmmm cant think of anything generally wrong with the PKs or SRT for now... Scratch this one... We have the 'clock' maniaks running around under 'Commander KoL' saying phrases like "I want you to suck my great big huge CLOCK!" We have the AOL'ers running around for hot this and that, "Omni" clones appearing at all of the ground zeros simultainiously, random tourist deleters creating gangs to go vandalise, stupid this and stupid that. I mean for the love of all that is holy... -------------------- Let me share a very recent experience with you, Ive known a person a very long time, as do a lot of you know him, and I have seen his picture several years ago in the various galleries... and a few days ago he showed me a more up to date pic, and I loaded it up and I just looked at it and just couldent take it in that he had aged so much from what I knew before and when I got my bearings I couldent help but think 'what on earth has happened?' because while my friend has got older... Active Worlds seems to be getting younger, the average mental age is about 12 now... Its worrying. -------------------- I think AW needs some good caring people to go out of their way to keep up the community, I can think of 2 people who I thought were the cornerstones of their relevant groups and helped make those groups the great things they were back in the day in my first and 2nd years in here... I sadly refer to Skyee and Daphne, and while Daphne could sometimes be a pain in the bum while I was terrorising AWTeen, both of these people had an ability to make you smile and knew how different people were and how to interact and be friends with them, regardless of problems... but now we don't have people like that who bind things together... its a true shame. -------------------- After that rather memory-flooding last paragraph... back to business. AWA and all ESO consider your new mission to find out who / how the heck these AOL idiots are finding us, I like it that Active Worlds is getting new users, I just wish they all had an IQ above 100 and at least actually knew how to teleport before buying a cit! Once we have isolated them... I suggest a good old fashioned burning at the sake. -------------------- Say what you will, Ive brought up quite a few topics here to consider. - Mark R builderzJul 14, 2004, 3:35pm
I didn't know the AWA, ESO, etc. were still around. Guess they went
underground or something. I have an idea that might help a bit with the newbs. Using a program called Camtasia Studio (made by TechSmith) you can record software programs (including AW if it runs in software mode) and make videos with audio or voice overs. You can then convert that into a Flash animation. Well, what if someone did this and made tutorial videos for the newbs? Such as: - How to Download the AW Browser - Teleport Basics - Building 101 and so on... So if a newb asks "how do i build?!" you could just tell them (or whisper to them) a link to the video tutorial. Almost all browsers come with Flash now, so almost everyone would be able to watch them. I would make the videos myself, but I just don't have the time. As for the clocks, I know what you mean. I was hosting KoL's world (PIWorld) when about fifteen of them showed up all at once. I had to move the world to TheMask's server because of the load. Aren't they some Flash animation group or something? For the PK/GK (whichever) ejecting for sending an activeworlds.com URL, well, that's just plain dumb. Do I count as an AWA member? I joined one of the various reincarnations.
I believe it was either the second or the third... By the way, the "clock maniacs" are the Clock Crew, they come from Newgrounds. As far as I've heard they are mainly annoying but it seems to vary accross a wide spectrum from there being entirely nice and sensible ones to there being downright insane ones. Yes, you can use SnagIt to take screen shots. But I was talking about
capturing video (the AW browser interface and the mouse moving around the screen) as it happens (in real time), adding voice overs to it, and then converting it to Flash so the newbs could understand things better. Builderz http://www.3DHost.net [View Quote] > Note: Can also use Snagit to make films..easier for me. > > Jag tengelJul 14, 2004, 7:40pm
Well, is not always so smart to convert it to Flash, let say you move
around, in a world where they have sky layers in movment, just because of that, hole 3D window will be used as frame, instead of just avatar or the mouse coursor. This will make the flash movie to be biger then what you could done in avi. But what you can do, is to create in Flash studio a loadmovie command, so it shows the avi, in the flash. This can save alot on the DL. When you use Camtasia Recorder, you should always try to avoid so much movments around ( sky, water, another avatars, eg), what you realy want to show. Another useful tools in combination with Camtasia is Blufftitler, a software that makes you create a billion differends 3D animated text effects movie. True, recording in a world with lots of activity in a large area (such
as clouds or the sky moving) would make the file size larger. However, there are other codecs that could be used that may work better. For an example of what I'm talking about, check out a tutorial I made several months ago for a distributed computing project: http://www.3dhost.net/udvg.exe I used an older version of Camtasia to record everything as an AVI, added in some effects, inserted background music, converted it into a Flash animation and then used an eBook compiler program to make it into an EXE that plays once you open it. My idea for the AW tutorials would be similar, but a bit different. The files would be in Flash (no EXE needed) and possibly in other downloadable video formats such as WMV, QuickTime, etc. so users could refer back to them or watch them offline. Instead of the background music, there would be voice overs or someone guiding the user through each step. Like I said, I'd love to make them myself, but I'm busy with other things at the moment. As for Blufftitler, I haven't heard of it before, but I'll be sure to check it out. Oh, and you have some nice tutorials on your site. :) Builderz http://www.3DHost.net c pJul 15, 2004, 3:30am
snagit with the camtasia codec is good :), but not as good as camtasia,
thers no latency at all when filming with cam, but snag has a big prob with it [View Quote] jaguar hahnJul 15, 2004, 4:32pm
