Somewhat OT: Professional 3D (Community)
Somewhat OT: Professional 3D // CommunitybuilderzMay 21, 2004, 5:32am
I was just wondering if anyone in the AW community does professional or
commercial texture design, models, or 3D animation or uses Vue d'Esprit (http://www.e-onsoftware.com), Bryce 3D, or Poser (http://www.curiouslabs.com). You can make some very great 3D stills, photo-realistic images, and animations with these tools. Some people make stills and sell them to magazines, others have done broadcast quality work, and I've even seen great online films made as well. I've been looking at some of the models made for Poser (http://www.daz3d.com) and looking at the galleries on sites like Renderosity.com and I'm amazed at the quality of 3D work out there. For those that are interested, you may want to do some research on these programs. Builderz http://www.3dhost.net cienaMay 21, 2004, 9:13am
I did a model in poser once. it was hard for me to do and I just kinda gave
it up for now. Will try again when i have more time. Poser is awesome but not easy. Ciena [View Quote] kfMay 21, 2004, 10:04am
I am using Vue D'Esprit to make still scenes - nice program, but nothing
for the casual user due its complexity. [View Quote] tengelMay 21, 2004, 1:18pm
Well, Poser is nice, but to be use in AW, it is not, a avatar made in Poser
would have to much Polygons and quads, to be used in AW. I did try to take one of my work there over to rwx, and reduce it so much I could, but still it was 10 times more then what is good in AW If you want to do 3D for AW, it is better to use Ordenery 3D software like Truespace, 3D max, Wings, etc Tengel [View Quote] builderzMay 21, 2004, 2:39pm
Yes, I have Poser, Bryce, and Vue...and while I've seen some really
incredible work done with them, I think they have a very large learning curve for the average user. At least they are easier to learn than Lightwave or 3DS. For those that may need something with a bit less of a learning curve, check out Carrara at http://www.eovia.com/home.jsp Builderz http://www.3dhost.net [View Quote] builderzMay 21, 2004, 2:45pm
Of course you should use Wings, trueSpace, etc. for AW. I was talking
more along the lines of professional 3D graphics or "prosumer" 3D graphics. While Lightwave, 3DS, and Maya are some of the top 3D modeling/rendering programs, there are loads of people on the 'Net making great looking artwork, animations, and models using the software I mentioned in my first post. Some AW users that are really interested in 3D, but may not know where to look, may be interested in it. Here is a great example of what can be made using Carrara:

psh, 3ds max is really easy to learn, just takes alot of time :) and when
you get the basics covered, the tutorials and user reference that comes with it is a great reference :) oh, bryce is only for rendering i thought? and isn't vue only for landscapes, and poser only for, emm, avatar type things? :) -SWE [View Quote] sweMay 21, 2004, 3:19pm
and www.cgtalk.com has some really good videos and pictures! just don't try
posting anything there without reading the rules to each forum, they're touchy :) -SWE [View Quote] tengelMay 21, 2004, 3:29pm
Well, a good start to begin, is to look at
http://www.3dlinks.com and http://www.3dcafe.com This sites usual brings you to many great web pages about 3D. Tengel [View Quote] sw comitMay 21, 2004, 3:44pm
I played around with Bryce for awhile. It's getting dated, but it can still
do some nice scenes. The following pics are for framed pictures in builds =D http://pics.swcity.net/comit_lake1.jpg http://pics.swcity.net/comit_lake2.jpg < last revision of the scene http://pics.swcity.net/comit_lake3.jpg - Comit [View Quote] builderzMay 21, 2004, 5:11pm
I haven't used 3DS Max, but I bought an old version of Lightwave (for a
discount) a long time ago and it came with a 500 page manual and I had no idea how to use it. LOL. I find Poser, Bryce, etc. easier to use. Generally speaking, Bryce, Poser, and Vue all excel at different things. But if you use them together, you can make some real masterpieces. Bryce was originally the best at landscapes and trees, Poser is good at posing models and doing simple animation, but Vue is now just about as good as Bryce with landscapes and with an add-on, you can import tons of great Poser models and animate almost anything without too much trouble. For some awesome examples of what can be done with Poser and Vue, check out: http://www.belino.net/v050304/index.php3 And I think these two movies were made using mostly Poser: http://www.daredevilfilms.net Builderz [View Quote] > psh, 3ds max is really easy to learn, just takes alot of time :) and when > you get the basics covered, the tutorials and user reference that comes with > it is a great reference :) > oh, bryce is only for rendering i thought? and isn't vue only for > landscapes, and poser only for, emm, avatar type things? :) builderzMay 21, 2004, 5:11pm
Yep, I've been there before. Those are great sites. :)

Animation:Master by Hash is supposed to be pretty good. Unfortunately they
don't supply a trial version. http://www.hash.com/products/am.asp [View Quote] builderzMay 22, 2004, 4:14am
Thanks for the link. It looks promising. Will check it out more later.
