Magsbot classes in exchange for script help? // SdkmagineSep 26, 2001, 4:47am

<html> Hi, <p>I spend a lot of time programming Magsbot, but I don't seem to get around to writing a lot of scripts. It would certainly be nice if there were more people writing them, so....if anyone is interested, I'd be willing to give some classes on how to program Magsbot, in order to encourage other people to write scripts and make them public. If you're interested, please <a href="mailto:magine at turtleflight.com">write me</a>. Thanks! :0 <p>-Magine</html> isa excaliburSep 27, 2001, 9:56pm

Ohh god.. not this agin.. I don't think I could take reading *another* flame
war over HTML.... everybody just get the hell over it and let people do whatever the fuck they want to. Let's all piss and moan like 2nd graders over something so trivial it's pointless!!! GET A LIFE!!! If all you can do is sit arround a bitch over html posts, then I pitty you. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeremy Booker JTech Web Systems (www.JTechWebSystems.com -- Coming Soon) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [View Quote] sw chrisSep 28, 2001, 2:05am
Geez explain it jerme before you flame the ignorant. =P Not that being
ignorant is bad. In Europe, many people have to pay for their Internet service by the megabyte. It's not a one-time payment like in North America. HTML takes up more space than plain text, so please respect the cultural difference and post only in Plain text. -- SW Chris Eagle Scout, Philosopher, Peacemaker, and... no, weirdo gnome, it's not trivial! HTML posts allow for being infected with
all kinds of viruses, worms, etc because ppl like MS started using HTML in NNTP posts. NNTP does not support HTML. HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) has it's own transfer protocol, HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). No other transfer protocol should be used to transfer HTML messages. Also, this might explain why HTML is bad, kitten. To avoid trouble, just don't post in HTML, and everyone will be happy :-)) KAH [View Quote] cozmoSep 28, 2001, 4:25pm
ok so lets look at mags post 1kb and lets look at retards post repling to
hers, 1kb.....now tell me how much extra time that is NONE [View Quote] kahSep 29, 2001, 7:11am
according to your own definition, you're a retard... if you don't want to
accept that HTML shouldn't be used with NNTP, then just shut up. KAH [View Quote] brantSep 29, 2001, 6:14pm
Unlike those who are flaming you for posting in HTML, I would be
interested in taking one of these classes - how detailed would they be? [View Quote] sw chrisSep 29, 2001, 7:17pm
It's for future reference, pal. Sheesh...

i sure can tell a difference! my newsreader is old (i use it intentionally, it was designed in the Windows 3.1 era) and has no idea what an
HTML post is. i dont see the size of a post, and i'm on 56K... so i'd really like it if everybody just stuck with plaintext. plus, HTML posts can contain viruses. maybe you learned something today... =) [View Quote] >what's wrong with an Html post? I'm interested in a class.

Degree of detail would depend on what the people attending wanted. When
would be a good time? Saturdays? Some weekday evening? -Magine [View Quote] > Unlike those who are flaming you for posting in HTML, I would be > interested in taking one of these classes - how detailed would they > be? > [View Quote] magineSep 30, 2001, 6:03pm

Whatever, but please take the HTML flame war to another topic, okay?

Ok. Why not? I'm interested too. A good time would be a Saturday
afternoon, CST. :) That's 10 p.m. VRT to 2 p.m. VRT. SW Chris [View Quote] kahOct 1, 2001, 10:12am
I like the bot very much, and here's a suggestion for a future version:
MySQL support! I tryed it, but it didn't work :-(( to have MySQL would be great, as it's very fast and easy to integrate with web applications, so you could have the bot interact with webpages... KAH [View Quote] tony mOct 1, 2001, 8:29pm
weekends preferred.

Monday nights would be best for me - I don't have to go in until 9:30 on
Tuesdays, so if you're asking my opinion, that's when I'd say :) [View Quote] brantOct 1, 2001, 10:31pm
I should add that Saturday mornings (10am to 12am VRT) would also be a good
time, as I'd be able to find some time when I won't be disturbed. [View Quote] magineOct 3, 2001, 2:43am
Theoretically, you should be able to connect to a MySQL database using Magsbot,
if you have the right connection string (see http://www.able-consulting.com/ADO_Conn.htm#ODBCDriverForMySQL). But I don't have a remote database to test on... -Magine [View Quote] > I like the bot very much, and here's a suggestion for a future version: > MySQL support! Try this in Magsbot (immediate mode F5) to open a mySQL database. Substitute
your own appropriate values for username, password and database name, of course. I have no idea if it will work, but it should in theory. :) Do please let me know!
