Dear Cy Awards Selection Committee,
We of the Cy Awards Team wish to extend our sincerest appreciation to the members of the Cy Nominations Selection Committee for their diligent efforts during what has been a time of experimentation and conflict and trust that you all realize that no one is pointing fingers, nor placing blame, that the experiment was unsuccessful. We thank you for helping us with the many hours spent in the testing of a new system and were glad that you were able to help. Sincerely, Executive Committee Cyberwitch, Tauntaun, Weebo daphneSep 4, 2002, 3:50am
The "experiment", as YOU call it, wasn't unsuccessful, just the support
behind it was a failure.. It was the remaining Cy core that let the ball drop by not standing behind the policy that existed at the time the Selection Committee was called to start the work asked of them... It was the remaining core that didn't have what it takes to face down the nay-sayers that pipe up no matter what someone else does... The strong leader was gone and with her went the backbone of the group... :o( The Selection Committee and the reasons it was called into being were valid... The Cy Awards Committee core is what failed the Selection Committee and the Community!!! A few nice sounding words won't change facts or the feeling of betrayal that some of us have... The word "trust" doesn't fit well in the mouth of the Cy core right now so you might want to refrain from using it... Also, please don't start coming up with "facts" about there not being enough votes sent in by the Selection Committee... If that were the case then Mountain Myst, the person that was on their receiving end and posted the top choices, should have said so and NOT put up any top 5 nominations until there were enough Selection Committee votes in... It's too late to claim that the Selection Committee didn't do their job... Now, I hope you enjoy your popularity contest... This is the last the Cy core will hear from me about this subject... sw chrisSep 5, 2002, 11:09pm
I would like to say that I don't think the experiment was unsuccessful at
all. You can't please everyone anyways, of course. I and a lot of other people think that next year a selection committee _should_ be created. But in order to keep delays like this from happening again, you and some of the more responsible members of the team need to screen the candidates before the community votes on them. Screen them so that you can be sure that they will go through the _entire_ list of nominees, and so they will be fair as well, like Daphne here. Then I think that you will have a fair and accurate way to determine the top five candidates for any awards. And a few people might even change their tune, like Daphne here. She's a fair and respectable person. Once she sees that you are again making an effort to keep the awards from becoming a popularity contest, she'll turn right around. :) There are always going to be people who scream and shout, and they should _always_ be ignored. They just want to cause a mess, because they see conspiracy in everything. Those who have valid concerns can contact the appropriate person on the team via e-mail instead of making a public nuisance of themselves. In keeping with my own advice, I have also e-mailed this message to the Cy Awards team via the form on their website. Chris [View Quote] just inSep 6, 2002, 3:19am
My 2 cents...
I have heard a lot of mud slinging that somehow the final nominations process was not credible. I could have used this and complained when seeing out of the many nominations I got, not one made it onto a final five list, and having a quick look thinking to myself some of these finalists are a bit dubious. I did not complain because the finals list, even if flawed or corrupt, is better than a "popularist" vote. The "popularist" vote in my opinion tends to validate charm rather than talent. I think the final fives as given should have remained, and the Cy Committee accept them regardless of the complaints, justified or not. Having said that, I would still be interested to know what actually happened in the compilation of finalists. The community put its trust in the compilation being done completely and accurately. Who on the Selection Committee (besides Daphne) did complete and submit their finalist selections? Who were the selections submitted to? Who tallied the selections? Were the tallies checked by anyone? Finally, I do hope that for the next Cys the Selection Committee process is redone and we do get a finalists list. Regards, Justin [View Quote] |
