Hi everyone:

I am sitting on my bike at the coordinates of 5117N 92E and I am in need of
something.

Since those coordinates put me at the Median Way exit off my Riverside
Expressway (westbound only), I thought it would be ingenius of me to put up
a sign pointing to Ground Zero. But instead of just putting up any ordinary
sign, I thought it'd be cool to post the distance (in kilometres and statute
miles) as well.

If any of you can crunch the numbers for me (I'm NOT the math wiz I was when
I was a kid! :-)), it'd really be MUCH appreciated. :-)

In fact, since Median Way runs through a good portion of the NE part of AW,
perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea if a bunch of us starting sprinkling signs
like that up and down Median Way so people don't get lost. :-)

Does this sound like a cool idea or what??? :-)

Comments??? Flames??? Tar??? Feathers??? Hugs??? Kisses???

Cheers for now everyone... :-)

oops.. forgot you wanted kilometers and miles, it would be:

km: 51.178269802719982143599173580683
miles: 31.8007 (couldn't be as precise on that)

Talk to SW Comit about that (if you can find him). He started up a
little organization a while back called the Community Linkage
Commission, which was responsible for building roads and roadsigns
between towns. (Of course, ever since phalaphe "took over", it has
ground to a dead stop. :P) If you look at the GK Expressway south of
Goobertown, you can see some of the mileage signs I put up for CLC. :)

I believe the virtual math is 1 coordinate equals 10 meters. You'll have
to convert that to miles, though, as I was never good at remembering
conversions. :-/

I reckon you oughta round that to something like 2 decimal places.

Thats...

51.18 km and 31.8 miles.

Reason for that is that I dun think many people would want to have to read
30 digits after the decimal place for km. It's easier to read 2 digits. Not
as precise, but easier.

Bah. Comit is around, just not here. So we can make stupid jokes up about
him and he won't even know! ^_^

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Hmmm...Why do I get the feeling that's not quite right??? Someone wanna
double-check this???

Not

Yes it would be easier. Plus I don't know of a single sign that would make
it whereas one could actually *read* all 30 digits either :-) *LOL!*

Reason is because that 92e is very little compared to 5117n.. therefore the direction is almost
straight north...

Anyways... in hell here's how I'd show the work...

(a ^ 2) + (b ^ 2) = (c ^ 2)
(5117 ^ 2) + (92 ^ 2) = (c ^ 2)
26183689 + 8464 = (c ^ 2)
26192153 = (c ^ 2)
c = 5117.8269802719982143599173580683

Then after that I converted it to kilometers (a coord is 1/100th of a kilometer) and miles :)

Hmm...I think median way runs all around AW...doesn't it? I have
encountered it so many times in AW...not just in the NE quadrant either. (I
think....)

If you wanted to make signs, you'd have to get someone that was familiar
with the quadrants...and...uh...I'm very familiar with the SE quadrant. I
like "sprinking signs" too so if there is a portion of the Median way in the
SE quad, I'll do it. (Hmm...I think I even have some roads stretching from
SWC to Median way...)

Is this the stupid road that goes around most of the entire buildable edge
of AW? I hate that road... I wanted to build a summer cottage out at the
ends of the world, but nooo INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT JUST HAD TO GO AND RUIN
PRIME REAL ESTATE!!!!!! ;P

lol no, Chris. VastError built all the roadage from GZ along 0n, 0s, 0e and
0w and also along the outer edges. Median Way is a smaller highway going
around the general center of AW.

Yo PC Hamster, I did the math thingo on a scientific calculator and rounded
it there, so don't worry all yer hair off about it not being exact :-)
