There has been a sudden influx of Aussie tourists at the Gate and I got
curious about where all these folks were coming from. Lo and behold they
had watched a television show about the internet called "The Future Just
happened" which featured a 3 minute article about Active Worlds. Although
not entirely positive about the "community" friendliness, it did come across
as saying AW was a "cool" place to visit.

You can watch the program in full direct from the net at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/in_depth/programmes/2001/future/defa
ult.stm

Select Prog 3, and unless you want to watch the whole show from the start
scroll through to about 30 minutes into the show (its live streaming so
there is no wait).

More interesting was that this article was able to attract so many people,
and yet apart from mentioning "Active Worlds" once, there was no mention of
where to get it!

PS: To watch the show with decent frames per second I had to close all my
other running applications.

Yeah, that video has been out there for a long time now (note how the
address has "2001" in it). Frankly, I didn't think that program painted
AW in the best of lights, making it seem like it was an elitist
community (which might not be far from the truth...), but it did help to
make the point about in crowds vs. out crowds.
