sale of aw3.3 // Communitywizard myrddinFeb 22, 2002, 11:14am
Anybody in the community hear anything about the elleged new client (3.3)
been offered as bought software package (including a cit) (The hills are alight with the sounds of rumours) jermeFeb 22, 2002, 1:06pm
I haven't heard anything about that. (i'm not that 'up' on all the rumours)
But, would that be a great step in the right direction for AWCom? 1. They'd be making money off the sales of the boxed product 2. That would bring a HUGE influx of new citizens 3. A boxed product would give AW much more publicity (i.e. they would get reviews in gaming mags.. considering retail stores would group it in with the games) 4. reviews bring more business.... and so on Sounds like a great idea to me! ;-) -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeremy Booker JTech Web Systems (www.JTechWebSystems.com -- Coming Soon) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [View Quote] dionFeb 22, 2002, 2:03pm
My brother told me that a gatekeeper told him it was going to cost $30 to be
updated to 3.3's features. That definately doesn't sound right, afterall, they're already raising the annual prices. [View Quote] zeo toxionFeb 22, 2002, 4:56pm
Great if its being sold in the stores thats great more publicity. AS LONG AS
WE CAN STILL PAY THE WAY WE ARE. And if what dion said is true then that would be the worst decision they could ever make. Almost everyone will stay in 3.2 and continue to use out-dated software that hampers AWs ability to grow until they eventually make a forced upgrade and then lose their entire customer base except for the few people that actually want to waist their money buying upgrades do. If they do that then thats it, im gone. I wouldn't be able to take anymore of their crap. Let this be a lessson to you AWCorp! -Zeo Toxion [View Quote] sw chrisFeb 23, 2002, 1:15am
You know what... as long as they let me do move, rotate, and terrain
generation in AlphaWorld, I'll pay $30 bucks. SW Chris [View Quote] grimbleFeb 23, 2002, 1:23am
According to the letter initially announcing the price rise, the additional
income was required to fund the development for v3.3. You can't charge $30 for a minor release of a niche (basically hobbyist) product. This is probably the "off the shelf" price, with 3 months citizenship included or something similar. Grims [View Quote] pc hamsterFeb 24, 2002, 6:33am
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I sure hope they offer *existing* citizens a discount on the product or there's gonna be a mass exodus like we've never seen before anywhere on the Internet. Patrick aineFeb 24, 2002, 7:33pm
Sell it on CD? *chuckles*
What's going to be on that CD, just the browser? Anyone *bought* a copy of IE or Netscape lately? Aine [View Quote] sw chrisFeb 25, 2002, 9:56pm
I believe that is AWC's impression as well. ;) But one key difference
between IE and Active Worlds is that full rights in Active Worlds costs money. SW Chris [View Quote] Aine [View Quote] |
