Poor behavior of beta testers

Nov 30, 2002, 10:58pm
It's funny, I sent in the beta email request months ago, detailing the wide
variety of systems I had to test with, previous beta testing experience with
AW, 6 years with AW, programming background, etc., and didn't get in. I
keep noticing posts from people that are, erm, probably not ideal testers
(like the post a couple of weeks ago from the guy complaining about visual
problems but had no clue what kind of video card he had or how to find this
information...)

When oh when is awmapper coming back?

On gigabit ethernet, technically 10GB would take 80 seconds =)

Of course, at "real" rates that systems can push, it would take about 10
minutes, but still =)

I suppose. I've never had a program written for 95 or above (game or
otherwise) that wouldn't run - only programs that were written for DOS
(and used direct hardware access, etc) have run into incompatibility
problems (and even then, some of them have worked quite well).

Unless you're running a lot of programs from 1992, I don't think
compatibility is a real reason NOT to run Win2k. Otherwise, you need to
get new programs since 9x is a DEAD platform (thank goodness!)

AW Build 483

Boy, it'd be nice to be able to post to the Beta newsgroup...

Is it just me, or are we no longer getting automatically prompted to
upgrade beta 3.4? I'm running 481 now, when I launch it doesn't attempt
to upgrade...

I also noticed that, with 483 (which I installed fresh after downloading
from the website), when I try to bring up a stats page with the "/stats"
or "/s" command, that the web page displays in the 3d pane - NOT in the
Web Pane. This happens whether I have "Show->Web" selected or not.

It's not a display quirk (i.e. the web page is simply being overlaid on
top of the 3d view), the incorrect window is fully navigable, i.e. I can
click on it, etc. It's like the command to bring up the web browser is
sent to the wrong panel object or something...

This doesn't happen when I simply click on HTML links within the 3d
display pane (at least that I've found so far).

Am I the only one?

Can someone repost these to the Beta newsgroup for me?

Yep, I see it's an option within the "game". I'm guessing the default
changed within Mutation since I was in the world 2 weeks ago, or
something like that. =)

Sorry about the post, though it's not like there's any sort of
documentation or discussion on the subject that I could find =)
