marcus.gcn.cx // User Search
marcus.gcn.cx // User Search
Dec 4, 2001, 9:24am
I just recently signed up for the 3d homepage feature, and one thing came up
I thought might be an attractive feature for AW users, especially world's
owners.
With limited capacity, have an additional world load. This would allow a
world's owner to browse other worlds and when a visitor comes to theirs,
they could switch over and either have the world they were in close or be on
standby. Also, the world's list on the left would pick them up then since
there is at least one user. To list all worlds (private and empty) there
are now 2117 showing, but if this feature were used then right now there
would be just 40 with the additional worlds people use. This means a lot
easier time to the visitor sifting through the current worlds with owners of
them actually online.
Dec 5, 2001, 12:51am
Where should I post it then??

No, I do know you can select to show no empty rooms. That's the point of
the suggestion, and yes you got that part right.
If no one is in their world then people have to sift through all the worlds
with 0 to get to theirs. How do you know if that person is online or not?
They would have to be present in their world to at least show 1 person,
hence the suggestion to be in 2 worlds with possibly limited capacity in
one. I presented the numbers to illustrate this fact and the result.
Instead of 2000 worlds, you would have about 50 to look at instead.

And I know that too. One more time. I was trying to suggest a feature
where people who ARE ONLINE and OWN A WORLD can have their world in that
list. Taking the idea of right clicking and unchecking both, that would
leave less worlds and the ones who ARE ONLINE and OWN A WORLD would show up
(if they were allowed to be in 2 worlds with limited capabilites). Got it
now?

Ok,
Yes, and it is also for the visitors so they don't have to search through
2000 worlds with 0 in them. The world owner can be in another world but
still have an online status of 1 for their world. That can help in sorting
the world's list since EVERYONE can right click and choose to not list empty
rooms.

"Imagine if 15 people are monitoring....would stay at 0 count"
No, if person 1 goes in to monitor then the world count is 1. That's why I
suggested 2 worlds opening. In order for 15 to try to monitor the same
world, they would have to automatically sign in to it without checking to
see if there was anyone else in that world, either by the list of worlds on
the left or just look at GZ to see the avatars.
Also, the world owner or a citizen/tourist building in a world could use the
second world for the object yards. Then they don't have to remember what a
name of an object looks like, and there could even be a feature added where
they could import from one world to the other. There are other uses for
this suggestion. Monitering visitors I thought was the most valuable to a
world owner cause it would allow them to be in another world. A bot would
do it, but like you mentioned that wouldn't indicate 1 user is online in
that world, nor does it account for the fact that user is online at all.
They could simply station their bot there and leave which would be very
counter productive. What I am suggesting is not something that would
incorporate or allow bots.
It's primarily a way for the individual to connect with others using the
program, since now they are free to explore other worlds and still able to
have status in their own world. A sign of a bot can't gurantee the person
is in that world.

It didn't seem like he responded to me but posted a new message with his own
"thread". Whether or not it can be associated with what I said is
coincidence. I don't think he thought of the content he talked about after

Can we not post new threads even if they are influenced by previous ones?

If you really want that now, have it go to a webpage that auto setups email,
then you can add the subject part. Example

You ma also want to try GCN at http://www.gcn.cx
For cable users and dial up users, the program is great for voice. Some
dial up users will experience good quality also, while others will probably
have a little static in the background or worse case cutting.
It also has:
Voice Conferencing - Video Cam - Chat Rooms - Email - File Transfer -
Games - Interface Editing - Internet Browsing - Message Boards - Profiles -
Save Favorite Sites - Language Translator - Jabber Messenger (AIM, Yahoo,
ICQ, and MSN)
