Nice :p ,
Now I'm starting to understand what I should understand about the difference Lightworks and VRay.
May someone tell me if the HDRI prob were solved please? :(
I promise i won't ask again if i get no answer.
Regards, |

The HDRI downsample problem with colours was passed to LightWorks. It's their problem with their render engine, so it will be down to them to fix it. |

Nice Frank! Since Roman was been scarce with the features are you able to validate that displacement mapping is one amoung those features? |

Glad you like it, Vizu! Keep in mind that these are just preliminary tests. There is potential for results better than what I've posted.

Roman will have to answer that one as I'm afraid I can only share test images. :) |

Well I see you have NVidia5200 which is not realy DX9 compatible, even though NVidia says it is. Some DX9 operations run in 'software emulation" on 5200 meaning the card just stops. I see Stoker has 5300 which also seems suspiciously close to 5200, I wonder if that card gives him real time shadows.
Must...resist...the urge to...whine...
So a new video card then? Perhaps it is time. My card has seen a few generations of fruitflies come and go, which means it's ancient.
Well, let the search begin. |

This all sounds great! I have been impressed by the all around speed. I am impressed by the new ability to model scenes which were slow modelling in wireframe mode, due to size, that I can now view and model in solid mode and they are very smooth!:)
I am using an MSI Nvidia Gforce4 256mb and things appear ok so far.
I am curently going through the "Getting Started Videos" with Paul Ashington and that will help emmensely.
Here is an idea for a new interface::D

I'm sure Roman [or anyone else] could do [much] better, but here's a quick temporary 1 until he gets the time.

Alien,
DId you go to that link on the new interface in my previous post?
And yes, that would be a fine Roman image, although I think he should be modelled in 3d!;) |

I tried to when you 1st posted it, but the video wouldn't load [presumably a prob with the site], tried it again just now & it worked ok. I've seen stuff like that before. tS7 has the power to do that sort of thing, assuming the relevant tools were written for it.
And yes, that would be a fine Roman image, although I think he should be modelled in 3d!;)
That's beyond my current skill level, unfortunately. Maybe he could do a self-portrait if/when he gets the time, like Splinters has.
Speaking of avatars - it could just be the codeine talking [toothache from broken filling], but am I the only 1 who thinks Vizu's should be Speedy Gonzales wearing lederhosen? :D |

The green thing here started out as three cubes and a cone. Got a little crazy with blending them in player. This is a Vray render, no lights in the scene. |

Added a spotlight to show shadowing in the subsurface scatter reflectance shader (rigged up some goofy settings here, overly bright translucent plastic!). |

Mike, I personally like the green one better. That "blending" you mention in the player also sounds interesting. |

Thanks for your replies (and specially to Mick for remembering the tS5 "Wert"!). I'm having a blast using the player tools. Very stable, very usable.
I don't know what I'm creating, bug-eyed whatsits or something, but it's a lot of fun. I'll have to tweak the shader settings some more, like I said, too bright.
Blend is incredible. This one started with cube which I magic-ringed into a trapezoidal quad-divided thing. I copied it 4 times and arranged it from top view to form sides of a cube (loosely). I booleaned all together and switched to player then used the new blend tools to bridge selected faces. You simply start the tool then select and watch the real time feedback and "enter" to commit (works to make holes as well). Then I subdivided a few times, selected various bits and used the sweep tools to come up with this thing. Very quick! |

Final pic of the session, the inside of the final model (in green!) and a couple to show starting steps. I'll have to make some recording files of the player stuff. |

As we are taking last bugs from 7.1 I decided to post a V-Ray image from Mike Harris, who often amazes me with his recent TS7 artwork. This one was done in TS7.1 Beta but does not use V-Ray HDRI. Here is what Mike says about the picture:
"One yellow local light inside, one blue outside at oposite end, both soft shadows and some plain GI (bricked over some windows while goofing with textures - VRay." |

Three weeks ago Roman said;
If everything goes well, within about two weeks we should be shiping 3 solid upgrades. There is some good stuff comming your way:
There was no specific date and he did say 'if everything goes well' and 'should'.
Doubt you guys will have to wait too long though......:D |

Are these white shimmering spots in the material rendering artefacts or part of the material? Anyway, looking good. And good to see that we'll get specific vray materials. |

They're artifacts, possibly due to ray depth setting used (still in beta, more testing to do). I just thought it was kind cool anyway and had to post it. :)
