I've got an idea that I might try using this model but after the Challenge ends. It is probably human nature wanting to play with trains.
Amazing work Noko.
When you get the time I'd like to know how you textured the mountain.

Thanks Steinie,

I wasn't totally happy with the ground texture so I started to experiment with Parva's Offset shader and ended up combining his Offset shader which has his Schlick shader inside with the Terrain Material in the Object Script library. This is what I got, the ground now, even viewing much closer has depth . First image shows no texturing of the ground and notice how flat it is. Second image and third shows the effect of Parva's Offset shader in action (well combined with another shader). I think I am close to point in explaining how to make ground and such. If I wait for animation to be done it will be forever, well hopefully not. This is real time renders, interaction in WS is smooth yet even with 2560x1920 resolution ground texture with same size normal map with offset map. So I have to say biggest key here is textures and shader.

This is real time render to file, slight post processing in PaintShopPro 12.

Animation of the wheels on the train with movement, also pistons which is all procedural animations that will automatically rotate wheels and move piston rods during keyframing. I hope to be able to use this to more easily animate train around the track.

Here is pdf on how I textured the ground. Doing pdf I've found easier and maybe more useful over time since it can more easily be transferred over. So if you have some interest in how done please read. Now this is part 1 and let me know if you would if useful or not and any other questions or suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks again Steinie.

Here is Second Part to Ground, fast paced how to make grass and trees. Any questions please let me know plus any feedback on docs most welcome. These are more like guides vice step by step instructions but if not enough for you please let me know, I can always add and update them. Adding icon symbols of the tools used per each section maybe rather helpful. Anyways I want to get back to animation and then do some Parts on making smoke, water and moving clouds. More later and THANKS ALL!
