I was able to continue this project after Marcels nice help with the framework. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to put into this lately because of my work.

Here is a quick update anyhow. I am a bit embarrassed for it now when the standard have been raised here with Marcels last project. :)

I am currently working with details around the wheels. A question is how to make the spring look more natural - this is a "leaf spring" (is that really correct or is Google making fun of me?) and it should be composed of several smaller springs.

The initial idea was to use the "slice object by selected plane" to make more lines from the top of the spring. This doesn't work, however. You can't slice it from the top - I guess that is because it is bent?

My current plan is to get the desired look by texturing instead.

Last, some really good news: I have got several pictures to work from. I posted on a railroad site and got several great images. So now the lack of source material isn't a problem anymore.

Don't be embarrassed. Your boxcar become very nice. :)

you can do parallel blades (leafs) and use the bend tool to do the curve.

You can use it to animate the deformation for a movie. ;)

I like this bend tool idea but a stupid question - where do I find it on the modelside? I am using TS 6.6 for this currently and your spring looks like a workspace creation - is the bend tool in TS 6.6?

Not workspace, it is model side. And you have the same tool in 6.6
